that's why I asked. so off the hub face what width would i need front and back ie distance in mm(hub face to wheen arch distance) so I can work it out to sit correctly. I would like a bit more traction so wider wheel would be better.

That all depends what width you go for. You can't change one without changing the other.

the offset is measured from the center of the wheel isn't it? so if I had the dimesion in mm from the front face of the hub to just inside the wheel arch I could work out what combination I needed

Yes but if you're changing the width of the wheel, you'll need to adjust the offset to suit. You can't just select a desired offset and then fit whatever width sized wheel.

I will tell you what I run on my car....width is a pretty comming size being 8.5" and 9.5" respectively.

I am running almost max offset (without arch mods) on those widths, (geometry is set to factory spec by way of adjustable tension, control and camber arms, car is also lowered).

+20 @ 8.5"

+35 @ 9.5"

yeah I realise that I would have to suit both up. so on an 8 inch wheel front to keep the same line at face of wheel the offset would be +25 as the offset would have to increase 6mm to compensate for the 1/4inch loss of half the wheel

sorry less to +15

Yeah, anything between a +15 and +20. But you need to select the correct tyre. Now, I hate the stretched look, I have dead-flat tyre walls on mine as it looks far more beefy and flatters the offset a little more, especially on dished wheels.

gorrit will save those dimesions as you cars wheels sit just sweeet with the outside and agree with the flat walls don't want donut wheels

Good man. Stance makes or breaks a car. You can leave the rest of the car stock. If you sort the stance, it makes a HUGE overall distance to the road presence.
