Quite simply I need something FAST! preferably Intel I7 processor (extreme yumm) and some good memory.

Don't need monitor, huge hard drives, graphic cards or soundcards etc. Just raw processing power. ( for music )

So all in all I need: Intel i7 processor as above, good motherboard with at least 2 pci-e slots and some fast memory and a decent hard drive all nicely secluded in a tower.

Any recomendations and what price should I be paying for the above?

cheers :D

buy my sons pc, it was built for gaming and is etremely fast :D and not too forget that its cheap

I say you''d be looking at around a £700-£1k for a low to medium spec I7 system. I would just go for a Q6600 setup and over clock it to 3.4 gig as they clock really easy and you would probably be looking at around £500 or that kind of system. These are build it your self prices.

Sounds good, but isn't overclocking only possible with specific mobo's?

I would deffinetly opt for a user friendly one with a fail safe option. lol

most mainboards that you buy your self rather than from a pre built system allow over clocking to some degree, i have an e4300 core 2 duo on abit ab9 mainboard, stock speed is 1.8 gig and its running at 2.7 no problem at all with stock cooler, been running this a year fine.

What programs will you be running you need to make sure they support multi core cpu's or its pointless splashing the cash really. I personnaly think i7 is overkill at the current prices. a q6600 overclocked will give you the best bang for buck.

Generally it would be used for digital audio and virtual instruments (VSTi) and the software in which they are used in supports advanced multiprocessors so that's ok the only real issue is choosing a suitable motherboard and whether I should buy new or used as they generally seem to go for ages either way.

To be honest I would be happy with the q6600 as it is but it would be nice to overclock it shall it be needed.

mine is Q9550 quad core, 2x 2gb ati HD 4870 X2 cards, 8gb of ram (can go to 16gb). 2x raptor drives, blu-ray/hd DVD drive all hooked up to me 42" panasonic plasma. it should be quick enough for you

I have a EMU 1212m soundcard running through M-audio monitors.

Dipone: will you sell me yours please cheap lol

i've got a Q6600 dual core quad, with a gibabyte motherboard, not sure on exact model but can find out for you if needed. Its a very good motherboard and allows for loads of tweeks, my first motherboard never worked right (some cheap sh*t) but this has made my life alot easier. I think i got it from amazon just before christmas

This looks really tempting the only downside is the lack of pci/e.

On the ad it says:

Note – The CPU speed shown is the GHZ when all cores are running efficiently.

What does that mean? Why wouldn't they run efficiently all the time.

do you want the 2 pcie's for Sli ? I've built a 2x q6600's and now have a q9550. forget the q6600 I had probs with one of mine with newer boards go for the q9### series they run cooler i7's are feckin expensive and I don't think they are that much quicker esp. bang for buck all 4 cores running deppends on the app your using not all are always utilised I believe

If you're bulilding yourself and don't need sli I can recommend the Asus P5QC(takes ddr2 or ddr3) P5Qdeluxe

they have the P45 chipset and will clock like crazy

I'm selling a brand new MSI P7N SLI if you want to build system yourself? \personally think they are good motherboards and this one certanly does the job.

I use my PS3 for gaming so I wouldn't need SLi graphic cards etc. only a very basic card will do.

I'm very interested in this now and seeing how the guy is making around £50 profit on this combo I've emailed him to see if he will throw in a cheap graphic card.
