which downpipes to buy???... opinions, what have u fit?

Need a set of 5 bolt DP's

BTW if anyone has any sitting around that you are willing to sell im very interested.

Budget is tight, i cant begin to share how much ££ ive blown on this car so far.

So i was looking at the labree 5 bolt super split downpipes on the z1 website which works out to about £288 add an extra £70 if you select them in stainless steel.

the 300zxclub.com website has a GB on z1 downpipes which have a smaller split than the labrees but are at a very good price, works out to about £240 delivered these however are stainless steel and not aluminized steel like the labrees.

Does anyone know if the labrees will make a noticable difference compared to the z1's?

What other options are there at this price range?

Hey :-)

Not being funny but I dont care how much they cost they are supposed to fit, and they often dont it seems. And lets be honest, making the pipe the correct length or welding the flange on in the correct postion is not rocket science. It does not cost more to make them the correct size, they are just badly made. And yet they charge for something that is supposed to fit.

Only my view.

The vast majority of aftermarket products are not a bolt on item, contrary to popular belief and this includes major companies as well!

I know it says it is 3" but can you do me a favour and measure the actual diameter of the opening. Is it 1/4 inch smaller? The reason i ask is i have unknown testpipes that have a 2 1/4" opening and i have also 1 what is believed to be Labree split downpipe that also has a 2 1/4" opening. I have checked the labree website and it lists a 2 1/2" pipe. i am assuming that the opening is 1/4" smaller if that makes sense!

Sorry i cant measure it as it is with the garage waiting to be fitted otherwise i would.

have you tried emailing Labree?

I would just send them a email asking what the actual opening size is on a 2 1/2" setup.

They were very helpful with me.

Email address is on there. labmospo@sbcglobal.net

I phoned Labree yesterday and they are very good. A guy called Brent has clarified that i have the 2 1/2 inch setup and that the opening is 60mm. I have got him supply me with the missing downpipe and all hardware which is a lot cheaper than buying a new pair. Bonus is they will fit straight on to the testpipes i have!

Just one thing to bear in mind when speaking to the states, the TT only came in swb over there, so if you have a LWB TT make sure they know about it?

Will this make a difference for the downpipe length?

I thought the conversation had expanded to exhausts in general, the downpipes and the test(decat) pipes are the same, it is the centre section and back boxes that are different between swb and lwb!

Just checking!!! I have still to get from back section that will join the testpipes and will bear this in mind.
