which downpipes to buy???... opinions, what have u fit?

Need a set of 5 bolt DP's

BTW if anyone has any sitting around that you are willing to sell im very interested.

Budget is tight, i cant begin to share how much ££ ive blown on this car so far.

So i was looking at the labree 5 bolt super split downpipes on the z1 website which works out to about £288 add an extra £70 if you select them in stainless steel.

the 300zxclub.com website has a GB on z1 downpipes which have a smaller split than the labrees but are at a very good price, works out to about £240 delivered these however are stainless steel and not aluminized steel like the labrees.

Does anyone know if the labrees will make a noticable difference compared to the z1's?

What other options are there at this price range?

best 5 bolt downpipes available are the 3" version available at specialtyZ.

They tested these new 3" pipes against other/older designs and the were better overall, in helping spoolup and power delivery.

These are expensive though also because you will also need 3" to 2.5" testpipes to connect these pipes to the rest of your exhaust system.

if you are on a really low budget you could even modify the cheapo 4 bolt split downpipes you find on ebay.

cut of the flange and weld on a 5 bolt flange or modify the old 4-bolt flange so it fits the 5 bolt turbo.

not really the recommended option though, but can be done as a temporary solution and then once you have some cash again, you could purchase proper pipes.

Depends how much you are in a hurry for them as i had the greg dupree (specialty Z) super splits and had to replace them with different ones when changing my turbos.

These will be up for sale soon and will also have some decat mid pipes to go with them if needed.

Problem is i searched everywhere and couldnt find the greg dupree pipes.

So i went ahead and bought the cheapo z1 split downpipes.... at least they are stainless steel.

Once the turbos are installed and i have saved a bit more think il either go for the 3inch stainless labree, or the speciality z ones following a 3inch testpipe which reduces to a 2,5 again. but i got a feeling il be VERY happy with the increase in power anyhow Thanks guys.

they dont all reduce to a 3"

I have a Labree exhaust system with Specialty z down pipes.

3" downpipes, 3" mids, 3" Xpipe, 3" piping into rear boxes.

Hang on i even have pics.

Yes I have the z1 600's. I have to say that I think it runs great spool up time has not been a problem.

ah ok did i read that wrong sorry.

still havent managed to find a site with GD downpipes...

I should be careful with 2 Fast 2 Cool, I have some and one pipe was too short. Easy to fix but thats not the point.

Didnt return them becasue they were a present and it was from Xmas

Yep likewise my 2fast 2cool one flange was at an angle. I had to get the flange on the exhaust cut and turned to fit.

Same here, one of mine was way off

Seems to be a trend here, 2 Fast 2 Cool are sh*t. Last time I will ever think about them getting my money.

you cant buy 2fast2cool 5 bolt anyway... we are talking about downpipes not the test pipes?!?!?!.

Hey mate

I wouldn't say that. Its just you get waht you pay for. I would not purchase any load bearing / items that will hurt if they fail from them but things like exhaust pipes etc are ok.

I know it says it is 3" but can you do me a favour and measure the actual diameter of the opening. Is it 1/4 inch smaller? The reason i ask is i have unknown testpipes that have a 2 1/4" opening and i have also 1 what is believed to be Labree split downpipe that also has a 2 1/4" opening. I have checked the labree website and it lists a 2 1/2" pipe. i am assuming that the opening is 1/4" smaller if that makes sense!

Hey :-)

Not being funny but I dont care how much they cost they are supposed to fit, and they often dont it seems. And lets be honest, making the pipe the correct length or welding the flange on in the correct postion is not rocket science. It does not cost more to make them the correct size, they are just badly made. And yet they charge for something that is supposed to fit.

Only my view.
