It's a long shot but does anyone have a chipped ECU lying around I could borrow? I can't get the car to start and after a chat to Jimmer he thinks my standard ECU and 740 injectors will just flood it and stop it starting. I just need to get it on tick over to check oil pressure etc after the rebuild and replumbing of the rads and air intake system.

If you have 740 injectors fitted AND trying to start on a standard ecu you will defo have a flooded engine now! Danny at DTA (trader here) should be able to help with a suitable chip and getting your own ecu socketed to accept the new eprom.

Thanks for the reply Jeff, I have been speaking to John Dixon about doing me a chip but I know he is busy so was after a tempoary solution just to start her up until he can help. Glad you confirmed the flooding as when she showed no sign of trying to start I was concerned!

ant,

ive got a a standard NA ECU (auto), a standard TT ECU (manual)

and a chippt Auto ECU, stage 1 i beleive....

It would be the chipped one, not sure what the stage one would be suitable for but sure someone will tell us? When you come down to collect the parts you want, may be you could bring it with you and I could plug it in to see if the car starts.

Even if you get it started and it then runs like a bag of poo, your gonna have to drive it at some point to meet up with JD and get it to the rolling road you are gonna use. It's not an instant thing he does, it can take a good couple of hours or more.

Danny's the only trader am aware of actually does a 740cc chip which does alot more than make the car start :p yer zed is good to go and be driven how you want it for years to come. JD can then whenever time allows alter it to suit your specific needs and that of the engine.

Oh and stage 1 chip, is at it says a stage 1 which takes in to account the most basic of mods and not bigger injectors.

An engine running 740's and power to suit is around stage 4-5 mate in the power stakes.

yes, should be down end of this week mate, defo bring it down :)

Auto ECU, stage 1

Stage 1 will most likely be Accommodating mods such as New intake, Higher Boost, Decat, Stock Injectors! Not your SETUP!

Will be pumping more Fuel through but you will probably have the same problem as you do at the moment! (May get a start but as stated will run like s**t)

Getting a closer matched ECU will be better if somebody has one mapped for 555cc injectors at least will be better! Probably will be wasting your time with a Stage 1 ECU.

Could always get a Custom Management such as Megasquirt (around 300quid) which is fully mappable! Its not a piggyback system it is a fully customisable system (IE you can do Injector pulse, Ignition Timing/Advance, Custom Fuel Tables, Launch Control, Rev Limiter ETC) The list is endless! Whack it on the Rollers with JD and he will have a field day mapping it so its totally custom to you :)

If you run a dual intake, a standard ECU will get you going in the mean time. If you have Doolz or a standard set up (i.e. 1 MAF) you will need a custom jobby.

Have a look at -

Not terribly expensive and you can plug in your laptop and retune thing to suit. It emulates the Eprom. If you have a dead ECU, get another, socket it and plug in the Moates Ostrich.

Thanks for the info, I will have a look. I would rather get the hardware and mapping from one source, I don't think buying a chip from DTA and fitting is the way to go especially as I'm going with a single turbo and doolz. Don't want the risk, at least with JD I'll get a base map to suit.

Just chiming in to offer my 2p worth:

DTA-Motorsport can only offer off-the-shelf performance chips up to and including 555cc injectors. Anything above and beyond that level requires a dedicated setup which can only be done on a rolling road. As Eric (aka Lymon on here) is the only person within DTA who does this kind of mapping any customer looking for a custom mapping session will need to get the car over to The Netherlands. Cost depends on how long the mapping session takes (ie, rent of the rolling road and Eric's time, etc) but the minimum cost is currently set at 750 Euro (approx. £670 at today's exchange rate).

Thanks.

So you don't do 740cc chips anymore then? Could have swore yer did previously.

Hi matey! How's it going?

Yes I did do 740cc chips but the problem was that there is such a variety of supporting modifications that people made to their engines. It therefore became too much of an issue to get each chip precisely right for each individual car. It's much easier for a 555cc based car as the mods are fairly much similar at that level.

Cheerio!
