The local council here had 'traffic calming' humps put in, the type fire engines are supposed to straddle.

Lots moaned that they were too high but it wasn't until jeremy clarkson wrote in the sun about 'needing a mountain goat to climb the eaton socon humps', that they checked + found they were 6" too high.

Cue lots of exhaust claims, which council honoured.

hi i found this if any good to you. i have had the same problem . mine scraps if i have my two daughters in the back and there not that big.

The rules governing speed bumps states that they must not exceed 100mm (4") in height over a distance of 1 metre (3'0") although the latest guidance noted suggests that a maximum of 75mm (3") is now advised. They also state that no traffic calming measure shall have a vertical face exceeding 13mm (1/2").

Hi stonewall.

Can you please advise me as to where you got that statement.

As i am currently fighting with my local council about the speed bumps they have put in as i have a lowered BMW at the front, nothing ridiculous and it slightly scrapes on the stupid 4"high bumps. Many complaints have went in which they choose to ignore as i was told they can legally put them to the height of the pavement and no more.

Where as if it as only 3" in height it would make a huge difference for going over them.

So i would liek to go equiped with that statement:rofl:

hi i just looked on the internet but i have found these for you one site was piston head that had a thread about this and it sent you to

Road Hump Dimensions with the web site below

Road humps constructed to meet the regulations must be between the heights of 25mm and 100mm respectively and have a minimum length of 900mm. To limit the effects of vehicle grounding, it is recommended that the ramp gradients of road humps should not be steeper than 1:10. Other considerations such as inclines, presence of buses, etc. along a route may demand shallower gradients. Humps may either be curved or flat topped. More severe humps, which reduce vehicle speeds to 10mph or less, may be used on private roads, but are not permitted on the public highway.
