timing belt snapped today so had my poor zed stuck on the a27.

had no cover so i rang the AA. to join and for them to come out to me they charged me £122.

i broke down at 4:30pm and the first bloke turned up at 6pm,he told me he couldnt take the car as it wouldnt go on his van as the exhaust would have been dragging on the floor.

then after them keep ringing me another truck(flatbed) turned up at about 9:15pm the driver said he couldnt take it either! said it wouldnt go on his truck without ripping the front bumper off so off he went!

finally at 10:15pm another truck turned up from another firm that the back comes off and sits almost flat on the floor.

so join the AA cos they are the best they only charge you £122 to sit at the side of the road for 6 hours frezzing your tits off.

i can still see the flashing of the hazard lights and now as well as a snapped timing belt i also have a flat battery:rant::rant::rant::rant::rant:

need to find out who is the best around i think cos i sure aint them:rant::rant:

rac as they cover you not the vehicle. but personally i use whatever the insurance company offer as its a lot cheaper then independent recovery service.

I'm with the AA and they must cover me, cos i've rang em up with a few different cars and they never have a problem with it. Nor did they ask me for my car details when signing up.

The AA have always been good for me :)

i gotta agree, i never had probs with AA, called them couple times with zed, said its low and they brought a nice flatbed....

also i think its the person not the car? coz i called em when i was in my uncles car too.. no problems...

If the RAC cant tow you with their van because your car is modified they will charge you extra and wont guarentee a time limit to be rescued, needless to say they no longer have my business.

I waited for 1 hour for a AA truck to turn up who was assesing the situation, who then waited until the flatbed truck turned up. In total 3 1/2 hours of waiting when my waterpump blew and am an AA member and was pleased they could get me and the Z back to my local garage and then home tbh.

They dont have that many flatloader trucks but tbh i would not expect them to not that many cars as low as ours that you see every day.

AA have always sorted me out and i have needed them help a couple of times they asked me can we fix it? i say no, they say is it low? i say yes they send a low loader! sorted.

dan.

i have full rac cover and have never phoned them up for myself, i did go and pretend i was in my brothers mgf once after a crash and then but it on a flatbed no questions asked.

been a member with them for years and never had a problem with them even called them out twice in the same day and no problems

IN my view you were lucky to be able to join on the same day needed the service as you were stuck and they got you home even this one service must have been worth the wait and the money

And also remember it is a bank holiday and every body and their dogs are out on the road

Due to the positioning of the front tow hook, a normal flat-bed truck will have problems with the winch as it'll catch BIG TIME on your front bumper whilst pulling you onto the deck. Now I've been on the back of five truck so far in Eliza and most of the drivers have been very helpful and knowledgeable regarding how to drag it up the ramp. But what I'd advise to anyone in this position would be to explain the clearance issues over the phone to the operator on the first call and request that you would require the use of the type of truck mentioned above, where the deck comes off and is flat on the road surface. Now there aren't that many of these specialist trucks around so it may take longer for them to get hold of a local one for you, but it's worth the wait. My last lift was with one of these trucks, and I managed to block the whole of the car park of ASDA at Oadby (Leicester) for about 20 mins :D (there are some ****ing stupid people about!!)

with AA and never had an issue, they do cover the induvidual and not the car, was with Greenflag before these and they cover the Car, but they do offer a service where if they dont turn up and get you sorted with 60 mins they refund you a chunk of what you paid, think i got 50 quid of my 100 i paid for the year back when they turned up after 70 mins when i broke down in a car park in st ives. might be something to consider if the time element is most important to you and you only need to cover 1 vhicle.

when i broke down in Slovenia (Yes Slovenia) after trying to explain where i was (no road signs for miles) had to give them Landmarks they got to me within 1hour and we grabbed loads of small rocks put them at the foot of his ramp to make the car abit higher so it wouldnt scrape!Did it when coming off as well all Good :) They usually have bits of wood for the same idea!

Just a shame his english wasnt very good was sooo difficult trying to explain to him what was wrong as pointing and hand gestures werent working lol
