My car is lowered 40mm on 17inch wheels

 

It doesn't have any aftermarket adjustment parts fitted, i have bought driftworks camber arms front and back and tension rods with the intention of getting it all adjusted.

 

But, i haven't noticed any kind of abnormal tyre wear of any kind, how neccesary are these parts? is it possible i dont need them?

How long have the tyres been on or how long has it been lowered?

front tyres were replaced the day i bought it, 1st of feb ish, the cars a daily driver and ive dont about 3000 miles since then

Give it a few more miles then and you'll notice.

are there any ways to check if ill need these bits fitting?

 

Does everyone who has there zed lowered suffer from this problem?

Have you had a good look at the inner side of the tyre?

yep, lots and lots of times, no change whatsoever, same with the back, even wear right accross the middle, very very minor at that

Would have thought you'd be seeing signs of wear by now. Since your car is dropped 40mm its definitely worth installing the adj camber arms and tension rods IMO.

I have bought front and rear adjusters as mine is dropped 50mm but when I spoke to JeffTT he said he hasn't fitted any on his car which is lowered alot and has no camber issues. I guess it's just piece of mind for me but juries still out if they are essential...

It just seems that i should have had some sort of noticable wear by now surely

that's real interesting as I have tien coilovers on mine with stock alloys at stock ride height no aftermarket camber adjustment. If I ever get round to some new wheels I might be able to lower it then.

Mine's lowered and running on 18 inch wheels. The rear tyres (Bridgestone) are gone on the inside edges and that's after 5.5k miles, with about 2mm left across the rest of the tread.

 

Had the car on a ramp today and told my mechanic the camber wasn't adjustable (from what I remember reading around here) but he said he could adjust it, so he's looking at it next week. Is he talking crap lol?

Rear has a little adjustability, but none on the front.

Time will tell dont get me wrong but i would rather wait and see to be honest.

Besides, zed tyres wear on the inside edges naturally anyway so its not that big a deal unless something is more than usual, surely?

I've lost track of the amounts of threads along the lines of "my car is lowered and I'm getting bad tyre wear" etc.

....no scare mongering...if you're going to do the job, do it properly! You'll also be able to get a better stance as well as actually get your geometry into spec which it won't be if you've dropped the car by 40mm. Not always about tyre wear. There are other factors you need to take into consideration. :)

I would fit adjustable arms even if I was keeping stock height. When lowering the car though you move the standard geometry out of spec, you can prob get away without any real ill-affects with a mild drop (such as eibach springs) but going any lower and it will have an ill-affect on handling and tyre wear.

 

They have many benefits - rose jointed spherical bearings instead of rubber and you can ensure geometry is correct and have it adjusted to suit your own needs.

You have them now so why not use them? They are far better than crappy rubber stock wobbly bushings yuck. You will also always have the piece of mind to be able to change the stance if you pleaee AND stock non adjustable camber arms will never be perfectly setup, for instance if one of your springs is slightly weaker than the other or a roll bar is slightly twisted or chassis ;) or even the camber bushings themselves.

Pete, you can see from your sig pic that your front camber is out compared to the back.

Pete, if your unsure. Why not book it in for a wheel alignment, they will be able to tell you how far out it is and how it will affect your tyre wear and more importantly how the car handles.

Will actually improve cornering with negative front camber BUT reduce braking grip :(

im intending to refresh my suspension all round - as i posted in another thread, when i upgraded from my 18s to 19s, both front tyres were very worn on the inside half. assuming suspension problems at the front also due to there being more of a gap on one side than the other, i've elected to go with KYB struts, eibach springs, powertrix front and rear arms, and adjustable front tension rod. then i'll get a fully geometry setup - not cheap and perhaps not 100% necessary but at least i'll have peace of mind

Ive got adjustable cusco rear camber arms my factory arms didnt have any camber bolts fitted so no rear adjustment .Maybe some have camber bolts and some dont.:confused:
