Hey,

What's the best way without using a press to get the bloody HICAS ball joints out?

Cheers,

do you have the hub off???

nope lol, i was trying to do it in situ.

I've got all the hicas gear off, wondering how to get them out?

Is it less hassle to get the hub off and get them pressed out by a shop?

Wow300 done my lower ball joint and was able to do it with a clamp I think. No need for a press. If its he same thing we are talking about, lol

i used this way, take a grinder to the outer of the balljoint and grind the flange off till it is level with the actuall hub, i got lots of heat on it and a solid metal bar and knocked them out towards the shocker (it just manages to drop out)

then simply put the new ones in and bolt back up

took me about an hour a side

is there anything that has a hotter flame than propane/butane?

you will never get it hot enough with one of those wickes diy jobbies, i used my works gas bottle that we use for fittings and burning off paint

*****cks, i've not got anything stronger. any ideas?

where can i buy one of them from?

try a balljoint splitter. put pressure on the balljoint with splitter and then get two hammers and hit both sides of the balljoint at the same time, that always works.

why is that then mate, I must admit I have never used one on my zed but have used them all the time on other motor's with great success.

check the link in my early post, its easier to do it the way i posted about, the flange on the front of the balljoint is old and thin, it just rips the flange off and the balljoint stays put lol

just a hand held blow torch and gas bottle will do, you could use oxy but it will prob need training certificates before they hire it out to you

My old mans the same lol, he's miles away as well!

it'd been quicker to get the hub off after all :o

not really, ive seen workshop presses unable to move them, once you have mastered one side, the other will be a piece of piss

you need a bottle of MAPP gas...butane and methylacetylene-propadiene, so burns a lot hotter. Ive got one in my plumbers bag..its a tall yellow bottle but the atuall torch head iirc is about £45

here this is the type..cheaper than i thought http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Excel-Self-Igniting-Torch-%26-Rothenberger-Mapp-Gas_W0QQitemZ380112729954QQcmdZViewItem
