i thought the only difference was the balance bar and the manual turbos spool up a little later not sure if you can tell that by looking at the gearbox tho

How did you discover it was a manual engine ?

there was a little jap mechanic stuck under the bell housing....he told them :D:rofl:

im sure someone with more knowledge will be along soon to explain all lol

Im already here and I asked the question ;) lol

The turbo exhaust compressor is slightly smaller on an Auto engine and the other difference is the cam profiles - neither of these are something you would visually notice however when changing a gearbox. Turbos differences don't indicate that the engine itself was from a Manual car originally however.

For future reference :

Auto Camshafts - 240 degree intake cams & 248 degree exhaust cams

Manual Camshafts - 248 degree intake cams & 248 degree exhaust cams

Auto Turbos - A/R = 0.54

Manual Turbos - A/R = 0.63

I was wondering if perhaps you noticed something to do with the spigot bushing, damage marks where it had previously been inserted or something like that ?
