Is there any way of putting more tension in the seat belt mechanism. My passanger seat belt doesn't seem to want to retract.

I've got that problem with both belts.

Makes me cringe when my girlfriend gets out the car and slams the door without noticing 3 feet of trailing seatbelt and crushes the buckle into the paintwork!

Already replaced one from another car and that went the same way.

Must be a common problem.

Certainly is like that in mine too, I lift share with a guy and he calls them easy like Sunday morning seatbelts !!

Can you get a new set and just fix them in yourself or is that a whole world of hurt ?

Hi,

Both the seatbelts on my import 300Zx were slack when I bought the car...but seem to have tightened up over the last 6 months...perhaps the Japanese don't wear their belts, and the mechanism gets stiff through lack of use?

Hi,

I've got a set of seatbelts from the Z I've just dismantled. The drivers side seatbelt worked perfectly and the passenger side could play up sometimes (sometimes a bit loose).

I took me ten minutes to take them off, so hopefully it'd only take you 20 mins to take a set off and put another set back on. ie DIY no problem.

They've also got some electronics in them. Don't ask me why. Those japs can't leave anything "un-electronicified" can they (-:

Anyway I don't know how much they're worth. I suppose about £40 for the drivers side (A1) and £20 for the passenger side (A2).

Let me know if anyones interested.

I think the electronics are to assist with tensioning the belt. I noticed that when i turn off the ignition the belt jumps to take in a bit of slack.

It doesn't seem to do it anymore though...
