When putting everything back together after changing my handbrake warning light bulb I think I wired the aftermarket switch for the rear fogs up wrong. Now the front fogs don't work either :headvswal I've wired the rear fog switch up correctly now and checked the foglight fuse but the front and rear fogs refuse to work. The fog relay doesn't click. The rear fog lights seem to take their power from the front fog switch. Any ideas what I might have done?

Cheers,

James

You might be lucky and just blown the fog fuse, in the footwell next to the accelerator pedal

Is there a fuse for the fogs in the drivers footwell fusebox? I've found a fog fuse under the bonnet in the same box as the fog relay. If there is another fuse then that sounds like the likely culprit - I can't see how anything else can have blown even if some wires that aren't meant to touch have touched.

Actually you are right there isnt a fog fuse in the footwell, its in the engine bay. Its worth checking them anyway as the there are fuses which may effect the accessory switch of the lighting

Have you checked to see if everything else works? Do you have a light on , on the rear fog(illuminated switch), when you turn it on?

Unless its still wired wrong, then no power is getting to the switch, so it can only be the relay or fuse.

Cheers for the reply. The only reason I haven't checked the footwell fuses is because they fuse card is all in japanese and because everything else seems to be working. There is no light on the illuminated switch and there is definately no power to the switch. I tested the fog fuse and it had continuity so was not blown, and there was 12v at the fusebox so I'll have to try the relay next. Unfortunately it looks like there's not another relay like that on the car so I'll have to buy one to see if that's the problem :)

I wouldn't know where to start. I'll just check them all I think lol. The fact that the relay isn't even clicking says to me that it's either the switch I've somehow broken or the relay is fried.

Always good to check them all, take them out and check, the trouble with spade fuses is that they look ok from the top sometimes but could have gone in the middle.

I'm checking them for continuity with a multi-meter to be on the safe side :D I'm starting to suspect the relay now though to be honest.

Just an update - taken the switch pod off and tested the fog light pins in the multi plug and I haven't got any power at any of them which means (assuming I'm actually testing the right pins) that I must have blown a fuse somewhere - would you all agree with this and have any idea which fuse I should be checking? I'm trying to check them all at the moment but it's difficult in the dark lol.

Another update - removed the relay and linked the pins myself and the fogs come on. Tested the relay across the battery and it clicks. Both relay coil pins in the car loom have continuity with the chassis. I'd definately say I've got a problem with whatever supplies the battery positive to the switch - but unfortunately I don't know what that is. Any ideas?

Anyone think that I could have somehow blown the diode? And does anyone know where the diode is? The circuit diagram shows a set of diodes for headlights, fog lights etc.

give me a slap for being dumb but looking at your sig pics then you have a j-spec with no rear fogs or ANY rear fog.....stands back waiting for a slap

That's right mate. Front fogs as standard with an aftermarket rear fog in the right hand reverse lights with a switch mounted on top of the right hand switch pod. None of the fogs are working at the moment :)

Bump - anyone any ideas on this problem? Spent a few hours today messing round with this problem and still can't work it out. I'll give it another go tomorrow to get it working properly and then I'll just have to bodge the rear fog to pass the MOT and sort the front fogs after :)

Cheers.
