Thanks to the DVLA and they're slow ass service of getting a replacement log book to me due to useless previous owner, my zed will still be off the road for another week or so.

So this weekend I plan on giving it a good old clean as the previous owner had it stood for 2 years, and the paint is looking rather faded etc.

I can do all of that fine, but the engine bay is manky, very very manky. Basically, you can't see the engine lol.

What's the best way to clear all of the grime and crap from the engine? I don't want to take the risk of jet washing it or steam cleaning it, don't trust old electrics much!

What would you chaps and chapesses recommend?

Cheers.

got to be honest with you, i find gunk isn't very good. ive used it a few times and the results were always poor.

I think i need some tuition how to use it right.

I use autogleam engine and machine cleaner, hose pipe with a spray nozzle then autogleam plastic and vinal care comes up nice.:):)

I might have an excellent engine degreaser so I'll post once I've tried it on something heavy duty. All I can say is I've used it as hand cleaner after messing on an engine and my hands were spotless, moved all oil from the grains of skin :)

Vijay

I always use Bling Elves, they only work when its dark though. You can just make out the little blue lights of their helmets as they toil away.

LOL Vinz, did they steal your brake fluid lid.................

Seriously, i would stay away from anything which has water in it to clean a zed engine, way to much electric stuff to mess with.

Just good elbow grease.

I'm lucky I hadn't moved my mug too far, else I'd be needing your Bling Elves to get the coffee out of my keyboard and monitor from laughing at that one

Cheers for all your suggestions! I went to Halfrauds and the only thing they had in stock was an Auto Glym engine cleaner.

Although, now my car is in a garage ALL weekend having the brake pipes done for the MOT. Hurrah.

  • 2 weeks later...

How's this? Tried it on a power steering pump that was just covered in crap. Put some on with my fingers, agitated with a toothbrush and left for 5 minutes and then wiped with kitchen towel :)

Will try on some bodywork next :)
