Hey,

I'm looking to put bigger brakes on my zed as mine are shot and while replacing i may as well go the full monty on them. :p

I currently have Rays Racing Volk TE37 apparently,( i don't have scooby about wheel brands etc i'm afraid), all i know is that there light as hell and that's what i like. Thing is there only 17 inch and no hope of getting bigger brakes behind them so i need to change them.

What i want are some very light 19 inch wheels with the right dimensions ,offset and size etc to accomodate either some larger diameter disc and bigger calipers.

So suggestions on wheel brands and specific wheels if you could,

And what brake set up is best for regular track days? i.e. experiences of brands and combinations of calipers and discs.

Tar,

Ste

Quite a lot of 17" styles will fit bigger brakes behind them. The GTR came with 17" wheels for example with its Brembo brakes, and I know somebody with Brembo F50 calipers (a lot bigger than gtr/350z brakes) and 17" BBS alloys.

Hmm, i know, i've read this as well.

just measuring up and i have 85-90mm between hub and face and 380mm to the wall of the alloy.

How much of an expansion margin do you need to leave, as i think the biggest sized discs i would ever get under mine would be 330mm is that enough disc to prevent heat soak?

I don't think i'll have any problems with fouling on the face of the alloy as there's enough clearance to get my hand between the original caliper and the alloy though.

I believe some brake suppliers do detail the clearance required...I seem to remember reading K-sports recommended hub to wheel clearance required somewhere.

You would be limited to around 330mm, which would be perfectly adequate especially if using 2 piece discs with aluminium bells.

just been looking at race spec evo's and scoobys that arent that far off the weight of a SWB and they dont have brakes bigger than 356mm

I ended up not doing anything last time i looked at changing them lol :smash:

I'd be gutted to get rid of my wheel tbh so it's decided then, look at 330mm disc with my standard wheels.

next question, how do you work out the correct brake balance?

Ksports are the Dogs danglys... I cannot reccomend them highly enough

Dan @ DTA said that one of his customers had specifcally asked for the same setup as yourself as it gave good brake balance and the performance you need for regular track days.

I'm wondering how on earth you work it out? i've been reading for hours and haven't got a good description yet lol.

thats good to bear in mind though as the k sport arent badly priced and seem to be getting alot of good reviews.

Thanks

I have the 8 pot fronts with 350mm discs and 6 pot rears with 330mm discs and their standard pads. I was told that I would not need to amend the balance.

On tracka nd road they have been nothing short of spectacular compared to before. They do confuse the ABS sometimes but I just come off the pedal and back on and they are fine... I think all big brakes do this. I have run them with the ABS fuse pulled and they are pretty friendly its obvious when they lock up and you just come off and back on again.

That's cool. I'll doing away with the ABS i think, even though i shouldn't really from a plod point of view. I'd rather have the car running the best it can with the standard engine in terms of braking and suspension before moving onto engine.

Thinking of doing a refurb though in the mean time to future proof the engine, thats a contradication isn't it lol!

I wonder how much of a difference the disc size has on the balance.

I'm still having no luck finding someone describing the way they dictate what brake balance is.

I think with the balance there is a nissan ratio that they work to.. I'm sure someone more technical than me can tell you what it is. I worked on the basis of bigger at the front than at the back. Speak to Ksports they will probably be able to shed some light on it. Although in all honesty I think with brake balance its a case of whatever you want, if you dont like it then you adjust it.

That's probably a good call tbh, i don't like bothering people until i have the money to buy there and then so i tend not to ring up firms etc.

No, that's being of help all the same mate!

Ive spoken to them quite a few times before I purchased my kit as I had very similar questions to yours. They are pretty clued up and obviously are keen to sell a set but they also have a reputation to maintain so are also good to talk to.

Give them a buzz might put your mind at ease about the balance issue
