Hi,

I have had my zed under hybernation for a couple of months and wonder what to check. I usually start it up and idle for about 20mins mostly two times a month but didn't drove it for 3 months.

Had a quick spin to get fuel a couple of days ago and drove it to work today. Feells a little different, nothing wrong but just not quite the same. So just wondering what to check?

Oh, I checked coolent and oil levels... Any maintanence that I should do?

Probably feels a little different because you have been driving around in another car for a few months. It will soon come back to you :)

Probably one of the worst things you can do.

Is it not a good idea to start the engine and warm it up? This is a N/A and I thought it would be a good idea...

Hell no! The best way of warming the engine up quickly is to get heat into the oil. The quicker you do that, the quicker the top end gets oil. If you're sat there on idle from cold for THAT long, which is ludicrous, the top end is being almost completely starved of oil.

I never start mine over the winter unless it's coming out for a long drive. I never let it sit idling, takes a few mins to get out onto the road from the garage. Then, gradually build revs until the engine's oil is up to temperature.

so what's the difference if you gently rev the engine to driving it?

Oil works best at the right temperature. When it's cold it offers less protection. Take it easy during this warm up and things last longer. At the right temperature, oils will release any moisture and some of the nasties that have accumulated in it. Idling may not reach this temperature long enough to effectively get rid of them.

More heat is produced and more quickly, which i guess is FunkySi's POV by the engine having to move all of the power train opposed to it sitting in neutral being rev'd.
