or at least speeding off in it. - when afm cables are removed car goes into limp home mode. So by cutting a cable to the afm (need to work out which one), and extending it to a flick switch hidden somewhere in the dash you can enable/disable afm/limp mode - may come in handy when leaving car for valeting, or in dodgy areas :) (Not that we should ever leave them in dodgy areas)

Good idea? or would there be problems that Ive missed?

if i was away for a long time i'd remove the ignition coil relay takes less than a min....bugger to spot i.e. no switches... and no start possible at all :D

But just to add, when my maf went I was told that un-plugging it would as you said put it in a limp home mode.

This will allow the engine to hit 2500 rpm, so in 5th or 4th on an auto you can still get to nearly 70mph.

:x: good idea to stop people ragging your car if left with someone though :)

maybe in theory - but when it happens you have nowhere near enough torque... it should really be described as a "limp to the side of the road and wait for AA" mode!!

nah..I did a over a 100 mile motorway journey home once with a failed MAF, no problem.

really?? I struggled to get the car back from chester - it was only 2 miles! Would start to miss in second gear and shake the car like hell... maybe there was something else wrong when mine went!!

Depends wether you were trying to rev past 2500rpm.

Had it a few times with previous zed (induction kit with no splash shield) It should drive fine below 2500rpm..between 2500rpm and 3000rpm it will cough and splutter very rough, and wont go over 3000rpm at all.

Which means short changing gears to get up to speed, and a max speed of around 60-65mph (or 55-60mph in an NA)

when i left my car at a repair place i unplugged the MAF to stop them taking it for a spin

someone on a previous thread mensioned taking the fuse for the fuel pump out, seems like a plan but i'm not sure which it is ( mines a jap import so everything in jap )

driver side fuse box in the engine bay, green block fuse closest to the engine.

It just pops out
