I've got to remove the engine from my old zed, had a look at the engine removal FAQ in the faqs section but it doesn't work :headvswal

 

I've got the service manuals that tell you briefly how to get it out but I was wondering if one of our resident guru's would be kind enough to do another engine removal faq? :D I've never removed an engine before let alone a zeds and could do with a little advice and tips.

I've just done a engine pull myself. I will try and find the guide I used which andyduff done a little while back.

 

I will post it up when I find it.

I've done mine twice, I think I used just what I could find on here, obviously the second time is much easier, I just made sure I marked EVERYTHING (pipes, plugs, cables etc. with different coloured tie-raps, and if it got confusing then a combination of colours, i.e. red green to red green etc. and the beauty is they can stay on till the inevitable next removal :-)

 

There are alot of seperate write ups detailing individual steps, they might be useful too.

 

It just takes alot of care and patience and check everything twice, it's very easy to miss something and rip it apart with the power of the hoist (don't want to worry you mate :-)

 

Other than that, I found it very enjoyable and very satisfying, we're all here to help ya pal!!!

Cheers guys, the engine will be going on to a stand for a little cleaning/detailing once it's out. Eventually it will be replacing the one in my new zed as that's not as powerful and has covered about 4x the miles, not to mention its also an auto with smaller turbo's and cams.

 

So far I've taken off all the rads, hard pipes and most of the loom but I'm not a mechanic so It's very much a case of on the job training...lol

I've done it twice now mate. 1st time me and my mate were head scratching for ages trying to figure it out, took a whole day! I done it the 2nd time over the weekend and had it completely out in 5 hours with no help at all. Worst part is the gearbox IMO.

Also, while its out get rid of the egr and all the other crud thats not needed, makes life much easier to put it back and do work on in the future.

I have to admit I'm dreading the gearbox removal, had a feeling it's going to be a PITA to get off :(

lump comes out the top

the gearbox is just a pain because of the top bolts, but which ever tit owned my car before me never bothered putting them back so wasn't a problem gettin them out!

main thing is that near enough everything is 12 and 14mm and a few 17mm.

just make sure you've got a UJ (knuckle joint) and some long extension bars and the gearbox shouldn't be too much of a problem (the connectors are a pain - very small gap to unclip them)

impact wrench is also very handy if you've got 1. putting the box back is where i struggled, 'cos laying on your back trying to wiggle and line it up is a real pita. i didn't take the box right out due to the weight and awkwardness of it, i just slid it back far enough to be out the way and wedged it up with a jack! lol

Thanks for all the help everyone. I've now got a good idea of what to do. Just got to wait until the feeling returns in my hands after fixing my targa drain plugs at the weekend :wack:
