Hello all.

 

I've done a bit of searching but still no joy here (sorry if I missed an obvious topic)

 

I'm having problems with my clutch. The car is currently in a garage and they are struggling.

 

I knew from the previous owner that the clutch master cylinder needed replacing, so what I have done is buy a replacement from SWZ Parts.

 

That was fitted and they discovered the slave was leaking too, so I replaced that one today.

 

The system has been bled, but the fluid still isn't getting to the transmission (I think that's what he said to me!).

 

What else can be done other than the master / slave cylinder?

THese cars are a pig to bleed... you might need to keep trying, i think i've read of ppl bleeding them 5 or 6 times to get all the air out......

They have bled it through a few times. He's just been on the phone to me and the Master cylinder that SWZ Parts sent me is different internally to the one that was on there in the first place, and was also full of water (no idea how he didn't notice that)

 

So he's gone to try again.

Fitting used clutch cylinders is very often a waste of time. Just buy new.

Buy the time you have bought these s/h units and paid for your mechanics extra time sodding about you could have bought new stuff, had it fitted and be driving about safe in the knowldge that new units will last virtually till the end of the cars life.

False economy in the long run as there is no telling how long the used units will last.They may well be as old as the ones you are replacing and fail next week

You sure your have not mixed a twin turbo and non turbo master cylinder because they are not compatible (different internally as your garage said) and fluid pressure will not be deliverered to the slave cylinder as the piston will not be pushed down.

I see where you're coming from. I just bought the second hand one as I need the car on the road asap, and Swz parts got one to me quicker than everyone else could. However, if this does work (they assured me it will at 5:30, when they were going home), then I'll be replacing it with a new part asap.

When I bought the part I did stress it was for a twin turbo - so hopefully that's what I got! Maybe the previous owner fitted the wrong once hence him telling me it was broken in the first place. Fingers crossed!!

I put a braided line from master to slave and replaced both cylinders after many attempts at bleeding. Now sorted and really happy with it. I fitted the RPS max so had to have absolutly no air in it to work properly.

Maybe your car was an auto converted to manual using a non turbo kit?? only guessing, if you think it would help let me have the garage phone number ( e-mail it ) and can speak to them direct to see what the issue is, or get them to call me, maybe a whole lot quicker that way.

I have no idea if thats happend! I'll hunt through the mountain of receipts when I get to the car again and have a nose!

 

That's a very kind thing to offer! If they have no joy after the master cylinder is refitted tomorrow I will get them to give you a call if you really don't mind?

You cant really mix up a TT and NA clutch master. The NA version has an arm/rod coming out of it, whereas the TT version has the arm/rod coming out of the clutch booster instead.

Very correct Legrath but if the operating rod was removed (before it was sent out ) from the non turbo one it would looks very similar and if then fitted to a twin turbo will not work, bearing in mind its most likely the garage doing the work are unfamiliar with the 300zx

Cheers everyone for the replies. All sorted now.

 

The pipe that went from the master to the slave was slightly kinked and was causing an air block. The garage made a new pipe and it's now on it's way for an MOT.

 

Fingers crossed for that as well!
