General dash question

Just having a look today and noticed that I have 2 blanking plates on my dash under the main clocks, I have seen on pics that these display things on other cars, one is on the left side of the wheel the other on the right.

 

I also have a blanking plate on the other side of the steering wheel (opposite side to the indicator/ main beam stalk).

    changed between series - series 2 had more warning lights around the clocks, so the old positions were blanked off.

    Excellent thanks, was there ever a stalk on the left side of the steering wheel? I have a blanking plate.
