just driven home after a good run down the 56 - noticed that the heater had started blowing cold......turned it off n forgot about it, then just as i pulled into my road i noticed the windscreen went suddenly misty so i turned the de mister on.....what a mistake!! was like a smoke machine blew out loads of steam - filled the cabin, then there was a pop and i couldnt see - my leg was covered in scalding hot steam and water..... so decided the best bet wud be to stop the water being thrown into the footwell at great speed - so to relieve the pressure i opend the rad plug and alowed it to vent wich slowed the torrent.......so i can imagine this is blown heater matrix??

Just do a search for heater matrix, someone on here done theirs just a couple of months ago using a Primera heater matrix as they are the same size and a lot cheaper (£60-70 i think) i'd post up the link if i found it but for some reason no matter what page i'm viewing on here the address bar just shows http://www.300zx.co.uk

bypass the matrix to get you back on the road mate....10 min job you'll need a length of cooling hose quite wide 19-22mm i think....then pull matrix hoses off (back of the block)....and run the new length onto the pipe ends...use washingup liquid to help push them on

do i need to get under the car to do that? or can i do it inside? where the hell is the matrix anyway how much of the dash needs to come out?

its a doodle....bonnet up....look down the back of the engine from drivers side...torch might help...you'll see 2 cooling hoses going into the bulkhead, they are the matrix feed and return pipes....above number 29 in this pic http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=26120&highlight=engine+numbers

 

remove them where they connect to the engine block.....then run a loop of cooling hose to join the engine block pipes together...bypassing the matrix altogether

 

oh because the matrix replacement is such a pig job...dont use a second hand matrix if you can avoid it...its not worth the hassle of having to do it again in a years time :D

replied mate, iv found one near me 35 probly fooked but at least its got a 3 month guarantee so ill try n brake it in that time lol! got it booked in for monday.... and now my van has broken down fuel pump doozel 950 quid.... pants down jobbie!!!

well iv been let down today and nearly killed by a black rotten Z that nearly fell on me!!! - he wants 70 quid for it now and from the look of it its fooked anyway!! lol!! so snoopy you got pm!! - a new one from nissan is 288 english pounds inc anal tax!!! so second hand is the only option!!!

 

as for the bypass iv baught 19mm pipe and two jublee clips and 2x male to male connecters, i need more info like a circle over the pipes in question can anyone help?? i know its the bit above 29 as you say but im not 100%

get the matrix from a P10 primera, bout 70 quid brand new and only requires a small bit of modding to get it to fit :)

I,ve just fitted a P10 one in mine , just needs the slot it slides into widening by a couple of mm , it really isn,t worth fitting a second hand one bud as they,re all old and you,d be suprised how clogged up and inefficient it would be , my heater was never much good but now it,s bloody brilliant :dance::dance:
