Hi there can anyone help? im new to the zx world having just bought my first one last month. its a 94 TT uk model. it has just started playing up in the last 2 days but its only a tempremental problem for now! basicly its not shifting up properly through all the gears unless ur carrying speed and basicly take ur foot off the throtle completly. the gear changes are also quite jerky. i also notice that only when cold reverse gear will wrk for a couple of seconds the seem to lose drive, not completly but u have to pick the revs right up to get it to move. the box has been reconditiond but this was a couple of yrs bk but i have recept for £1200 for this. just before the problem with the box started i had noticed a problem with the idle speed, it started off about 7/800 rpm but this relay started going nuts and would through it up to 1500 rpm and there it would stay. switching the ignition off and starting bk up doesnt fix it it just sorts its self out wen it feels like it. i have been wondering if the problems are linked as when it idles fine the gear seems to change fine. please help!!!

p.s also i am in aberdeen scotland so if anyone knows of anyone here who could give me help/advise/go faster bits i would be very gratefull

kind regards matt

Hi,

I would look at the TPS which also has the idle control switch. Have a look here http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=26120 number 22 is the TPS. Clean both connectors (one coming out of the bottom which is the idle switch) and you may have to reset the TPS which is easily done with a Conzult or with a multimeter http://www.pexcom.com.au/z32cms/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.221

Vijay has answered the problem exactly, the tps is thE cause of both problems and is most likely a bad connection.

Hi Matt,

Can't really help you there but my advice would be to get your car running well and get used to it before you start upping the power. May be an idea to pay some attention to the brakes first too ;)

hi im having similar sort of problem. Ihave a 1990 N/A auto and it doesnt seem to want to change gear! it seems ok at higher speed with less revs but if you put your foot down it hits the rev limiter and doesn't seem to transfer to the wheels.

Now i am no expert but i was wondering if that is a clutch problem rather than a selector problem?

any and all advice on this fault would be great :confused::confused::confused:

cheers for the help

The Skyline brakes are a good option but at the very least I would overhaul your callipers with new seals at the very minimum ;)

sorted!!! hopefully as advised i cleaned the conections on the tps and there was quite a bit of scabbyness came off. this afternoon did a 30 mile round trip without a problem so hopefully fingers crossed that it fixed. once again thanks for the excelent advise and hopefull wont need to spk to u again lol if u know wat i mean :D:D:D

did you check the TPS is set right?

Also, it'd probably be a good idea to do every connector you can get to in the engine bay as it may stop you from having problems again ;)
