Can anyone tell me if its a bad idea to spray a viscous fan?......

Only reason being is im getting rid of my electric setup and thought about spraying my new viscous fan blades just to tidy it up before it goes on the car

thanks James

Maybe a silly question but why are you getting rid of the electric set-up?

I thought this was supposed to be a better mod

Would balance not be an issue? if there was more paint on some blades than others then it wouldn't be balanced and may cause issues, thats if it's well balanced to start with.

Just a thought, don't know if it actually would be an issue or not

Basically im having problems with fan controll at the mo, so im going back to viscous as i know a few people with higher powered engines with the stock fan in place and cooling is not a problem!

Well thats what i wanted to know realy, you just worded it better for me:D

but surely if i put i thin layer of paint on the blades it shouldnt affect the balance a lot if anything?

I would'nt of thought that would cause a problem really, you'd have to put on a fair bit of paint to unset balance i would of thought, its not like its very delicate really.

Why don't you paint the cover rather than the fan itself ;)

have seen this done many times before and is not a problem. Given the weight of the fan blades a couple of coats of spary paint isn't going to do any harm.

hmm, some say viscous is better cos it's guaranteed to be running - some say electric cos there's less load on the engine. i'll stick with my viscous ;)

The hubs can fail. Nothing is guaranteed when it comes to cooling a 300 :)
