Contintental Sport Contact Tyres = Danger!

Right then, im fuming! When I bought my new wheels I went for the above for cost (not that cheap)and as they are fitted to Porsches are Z rated and grip well, i thought they would be up to the job. Having had three side walls go in less than 3000 miles!!!!!!! im not a happy bunny! According to ATS there known for it, the compound used will not last and cracks will appear on the inside wall and eventually leak, blow out! Great a not so cheap Z rated tyre that could cost you your life!

Ive now switched, I dont think Contintental will be very happy after I instruct my solicitor to approach their customer services department tomorrow!

The Z rating is the speed rating the traction rating is C, B, A, or AA. But either way they shouldnt do that. May have come from a bad batch. Have you been in contacte with the place that put them on. I am sure if they contace Continental for you they would probably give you new ones.

I know the Falken I have on mine have warranty for side wall damage as long as there is 75% of the tyre tread left.

I've always thought Continental are crap. This is simply based on the words of others, in case neone gets pedantic !

You mentioned about the ones fitted to porches, its a (not so) well known fact that many performance cars have their own compound 'design' if you will, i.e. differences to the tyre an aftermarket user would buy. Im not sure of exact differences, but the bridgestone s02 fitted to some 911 are called the 's02 n2' and the aftermarket tyre was the 's02 pp' and if the 'pp' (pole position) were used on the porsche instead of the tyre intended (n2) there would be problems.

Im only regurgitating what I have read and seen. I have seen a 911 c4s with s02 n2 and have seen only s02 pp for general aftermarket sale. and have read the stories elsewhere. Im sure there is no reason why other manufacturers would offer the same package as bridgestone had.

Hope that helps (probably not) but gives you a very very small insight into something you probably dont even want to know about biggrin.gif

KEEP IT SIDEWAYS!

I've had conti sports on my 19's for a year with no sidewall problems. Are you sure your pressures are right especially if you've changed the width and rim size?

Having said that I don't think they're great tyres but they're (relatively) cheap. Although I do remember Pete at SE asking me a year ago what they were like. Mmmm...maybe he knew something...
