My second car was a 1983 1.8 Sierra 3 Door(yup rare non-cossie 3 door) and that taught me quite a bit about driving sideways, and all my cars since have been RWD(apart from the Golf I have now).

Thinking about it...if there were more RWD cars that young drivers could afford and insure maybe the standard of driving would be better among the younger/newer drivers.

Look at what the young japanese drive, Silvias, early RX7's, Toyota AE86's etc! Look at the drift culture over there and the high standard of RWD skills!!

Over here all you get is the I've-just-passed-my-test Nova/Corsa boys understeering into the nearest kerb!! biggrin.gif

I would guess most Z owners(if not all) on here have had many RWD cars in the past which honed there skills(if not have fun, but dont bend the Z!).

Trev

Had a 1.8 Sierra myself - first company car. Loved wet days as I wasn't paying for the tyres..............!!!

I do agree about the Nova / Corsa boys missing out on a proper induction programme........

All rear wheel drive!

One of the best RWD cars I ever went in was my mate's MkII Escort 1300 Popular. Big forest arches, 8 inch wide wheels (classic Alleykat 13 inch diameter cotton reels). Always had people trying to race us thinking what a pair of w@nkers we were in a 1300. Favouritet moment? 4 young boys in a GT Turbo who were laughing and pointing at the car when we were at a set of lights. They sped off and my mate gave them a head start before putting his foot down. Snaked away from the lights and flew past them. What they didn't know was that it had had an RS2000 transplant. When the GTT finally arrived next to us at the next set of lights, the muppets were strangely trying to avoid eye contact....................!!! LOL

Ooooh! I've come over all nostalgic....

Difficult to be that stealthy in a Zed!

Similar routine except that my mates RS2000 based rally car had a 2 litre RS500 motor but without the turbos. This thing was swift and handled well enough to beat some serious 4wd stuff !

My list goes like this:-

1. Nissan Micra 1.0 shape 98 R

2. Nissan Micra 1.0 shape 98 S

3. Nissan Almera 1.8 sport 00 W

4. Nissan 300ZX TT 91 H

1995 Westfield SEiW

1995 Honda Prelude 2.2Vtec

1998 TVR Cerbera 4.2

1995 300ZX TT!!!!!!!

Span the Westfield into a lamp post on my 3rd day of ownership - I guess you could say I learnt about RWD at that point. wink.gif

Got it fixed, tracked it, learnt how to drive it - had ALOT of fun. Was so direct you could drift round entire roundabouts whilst overtaking lines of cars and still be in control!!

Mini 1000cc later fitted with 1300cc engine

280ZX Targa, crashed!

Citroen CX GTi. Great for cornering when sat on it's **** !

R5 GT Turbo for 5 years.

Astra GTE 16V

Astra GTE Convertible

TR7 Convertible (still got)

another 3 R5 GT Turbos

3 Cavaliers

1 Sierra Saphire Ghia

300ZX TT Manual

200SX S13

My bother owns a Renault 30TX X-reg & he's put a R25 V6 Turbo engine in it!! He's had 145mph out of it & burnt god knows how many fast cars off.

It's great seeing their faces as you leave them in your dust!

G reg Volvo 480es, with a renault 19 16v engine stuffed in it for sh*ts and giggles. (still stored on jacks in a mates barn!)

passengers....'

Pretty varied route to zed-dom actually ... much to the missus's disgust:

Renault 18ts - first car

3*scirocco (GLS*2 & GTX)

2*Audi Coupe

Vauxhall Chevette (times were 'ard)

Fiat X/19

260z 2+2

280zx 2-str

Porsche 924 turbo

2*Citroen BX Gti-16v

Saab 9000 turbo 16

Porsche 944s

200sx s-14

300zx TT auto

300zx TT manual (the grail!)

That's 19 in 12 years - can't resist a bargain, though!

Z32 is the best by miles, with the s-14 a respectable second.

Cheers,

John.

Yeah, John - the S14's are good. Me mum's had one from new (1997). However, I still think that the H reg 200SX (manual) she had before that one was far more rapid. If I junk the Zed, I would seriously consider getting one as I think they just look far more 'moddable' than the Zed.

However, I've still got my eyes on a 348 Cabrio..... (as I can't afford a 355 yet!)
