Hey mate I think its the same as having a lightened flywheel. The torque produced by the engine has a lower load to turn and therefore more energy is available to push you up the road.

They wont give you any more power but its less drag on the engine so in theory it you should be able to release a few more horses with them over the stock heavier pulleys, personally i wouldnt buy ebay ones id rather go with a trusted supplier.

definately go with a decent make like SGP or Unorthodox - the difference in weight between the lightweights and the stock is quite striking. only side effect ive noticed is that the car as a whole is a little sluggish when at very low revs (eg. when doing a 3-point turn i need to blip the throttle a little to get full power steering - also the water temp will creep up a few degrees suddenly as the water pump is underdriven) - none of this is an issue though and the free-er revving makes up for it!

if you buy one, take it to an engineering firm to have the balance checked, if its ok, your laughing, if not, its not a big loss :)

I've always heard really good things about 2fast2cool2 on ebay, there are a few members that have their decat pipe fitted with no probs at all......

I'm sure i read somewhere that a lightened crank pulley has a detremental effect on the crank bearings as the original pulleys weight help smooth vibration

it can cause this as the pulleys are harmonically balanced, but im sure there are people on here running them who can help

If you buy it you will need to change your aux belts as well.

You can balance it out if it's not balance by gettin gan engineer shop to do it, they will score or drill small holes to get it balance.

The way i understand it is thats its not to do with physical balance, but the resonant frequencies created thats cause problems, the balancer is designed to eliminate that effect

These are a fairly popular upgrade, however I would not recommend fitting one from ebay...they do not have a Timing mark on them !

Plus the woodruff key does not fit properly and you have to grind away part of the pulley to get them to fit!

I binned my ebay version becuase of that. If they cant get simple things like that right then I would not trust them being balanced.

Danny@DTA does better versions, and there is SGP, Unorthodox..etc

The biggest gain from them is engine/throttle response. Qquicker revving and when combined with Lightweight flywheel and lightweight prop the acceleration difference is very noticable.

They are a LOT lighter than the Standard crank pulley. 0.6kg vs 3.5kg

The other pulleys are not heavy so not worth changing IMO.

I've got one and I noticed the temp rise because it doesn't turn the water pump so fast. In fact when giving it some stick would chuck some water out.Put old pulley on no probs. On a car that suffers from overheating problems the last thing you need is something that makes it hotter. You can get a water pump pulley to match the crank pulley and it turns at the correct speed but I understand these are about £70-80. A lot of money just to get it to all turn at the right speed for not any noticable power, well not that I noticed anyway.

I'm going to get an original pulley, my old one is damaged so I can't put it back on. unless anyone knows where I can get a cheap ally water pump pulley.

Why are they not the right size in the first place?

Its more 50:50 with 2fast2cool products in my experience. seems to be a quality control issue. The decats pipes are manufactured by Megan Racing and quite a few have had fitment issues, myself included. Pipes had to be heated and bent to get them to clear, the other side was'nt as bad but was still a struggle.

Is yours a UK spec car ? Imports have a smaller water pump pulley which makes them a better match to the smaller crank pulley.

I got my decat and down pipes camber arms and other bits off 2fast2cool and they all seem to be perfect.

The decats i got of them were made by janspeed.

Thanks for the info fellas. My car dosnt over heat at all so would it be worth getting one? I tried to get my old one off and it was impossible

nope janspeed :smash:

obviously cant comment on the ones you got, but 2f2c do japspeed products - at least my zorst and decats were. :)
