One for the Audio tech's

Well finish wiring up the install today, plugged it in and turned it on... everything works well :D

However when there is no music on like changing track and stuff there is a humm type crackle. I had a play around and cant seam to get rid of it..

It started to rain a bit so had to come in, no am i roght in thinking that there is some interferance coming from a power source or could it be the RCA cables grounding out on the body work.. Under the stereo or in the boot ( i have 1 wired in ready for the carputer but not connected to anything, it's just laying in the boot)

Will go out tommorrow and have another play about but wnated any tips from any one who is in the know......

no i was just checking it wasnt noise generated from the alternator. you might have the gain set to high on the amp or a bad earth. check those first.

Get a ground loop isolator and put it on your rca leads. That should eliminate interference.

just a quick thought, are you Rca leads running down the same side as your power supply for your amps? Has been known to cause interference/humming noises in the past on cheaper rca leads. could also be a slight nick/or split in the rca cables that are causing it to short to earth causing interferance. i had a similar problem on an old bmw i had. took me 3 weeks to find the problem and it turned out to be a nick in the outer sheafing which was allowing the cable to short to the body. wrapped a bit of insulating tape round the nick and problem solved. May not be the same problem, but just a thought.

i think what mrbusy said, if the power and rca leads are running together then this could be causing it, try splitting them up and see if it cures it.

hey mate got a number of rca earth isolators that I bought when I had a similar problem if you need one. Sounds like a bad earth somewher or as the guys say gain too high

No the power and the RCA cables are run down seperate sides of the car and at about £40 for 34 i would hope they are adiquatly shielded..... think i'll try re-earthing the head unit and the amps.... i got an earthing point in the bood i'll clean it up... maybe put some tape round the ends of the RCA cables......

All the cables are brand new and only taken out of the packets today..and installed very carefully so dont think it'll be a nicks in them.....

Cheerz for all the answers
