I did have a Hornby railway set. Was only a little track, but I loved it. I had a shunter and a flying scotsman as well as a few carriages.

I miss that smell that all Hornby motors used to make. I always wanted Fleischmann stuff though, but, iirc, it was pretty expensive. I had a very wealthy friend who's parents owned a small castle in a place called Butleigh and he had huge amounts of Fleischmann gear as well as some really cool model boats.

IMO, I think stuff like this is fantastic.

Good man! We have a large 00 gauge layout in the loft (both dad and I very keen on railways) Ours is almost all bachmann, ive a few hornby bits from younger days though, and a huge quantity of 3 rail if anyone remembers that stuff?

If you've got good eyes then n gauge is certainly a good way to go, just ever so tiny but obviously you can get some phenominal layouts within quite a small space

Dad and I have since moved onto out door stuff though and have built a 7 1/4 railway in the garden. Tis wonderful!

One of my parents neighbours converted part of his garden into a huge tram set. Built the whole things himself. Long since dead now, but a very interesting old man.

If I remember, I'll try and dig out some old photos of it when I see the 'rents next.

I'll try again! Dam laptop crashed

It'll be somthing similar to what we've done i expect, we went with narrow gauge theme so we could have tighter radii and larger "sit in" locos/stock as apposed to "sit on"

I think its about 1/3 of a mile long and has a 60' tunnel and a 30' girder bridge arranged in two "p loops" with a 2 platform station in the middle

Dad and I recently took our loco up to comrie in scotland for the 7 1/4 agm in september, found a couple of pics from it if anyone is interested, the red loco with the grey trucks are ours, complete with dad driving.

The other loco was a resident i think, (although there was a visiting K36 up from kent as well (long way!))

Nothing wrong with that mate......

.....I built 2 00-guage layouts when I lived at my parents. They still have the second one in their garage but I reckon it may need a little TLC to restore it to full working order now! Mine was a mixture of Hornby, Mainline and Airfix stuff; I'd build another now if I had the time and space.

A nice 0-guage set up in the garden would be good though. Hmmmmm......

Go for it mate - and put up some pics when you're done!

Richard:)

ps and Si, I remember I loved that motor smell as well:rofl:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I have my own full scale one to play with!! ;)

Awesome! Need pictures! What have you ordered for it?

When I say 'my own' it's not exactly Mine! But it is private, and nothing to do with NetworkRail. It's a fully operative railway test facility (the only one of it's kind in the UK! Google Old Dalby for info)

As for stock when I was working there from 2001 to 2006 we were testing/commissioning the Virgin Pendolino fleet for Alstom, until they made me redundant. But now I'm back and working for Serco and we have a whole new fleet of Sub-Surface Line TFL trains coming from Bombardier (and that's all I'm allowed to say due to the Official Secrets Act! No seriously that's true!!!)

I'll post some pics tomorrow from my office PC

What an awesome job:duffer::duffer:

Just had a read up and quite a cool site, about time TFL did some investing LOL.

Just a couple of pics.... One showing me whilst in the cab of a Pendolino, and the other while we were performing Air-Con intake testing for Loco-Hauled situations.

And for any train buffs, that is a class 57 (57301 - Scott Tracy) Thunderbird, with 'special' injectors to produce extreme smoke.
