Thought it may be interesting to see some photo's of real faults & damage that can occur to your zed rather than hypothetical conversations, also may be fun to have a guessing game, take a look at the following photo's, and see if you can guess what went wrong.

Have loads of these and hopefully will of interest for members to see what really transpires when these varied faults occur.

The background to this particular fault is as follows, a rebuilt engine from a small company with in house engineering cnc machining, heads and turbo rebuilding facility.

Car was collected from said builder and around 60 miles later the following was discovered after an engine noise was heard and seem to be getting worse, the noise was semi metallic with a scrapping noise in time with engine speed.

Next one, take a look at the clutch below, the amount of wear and how the flywheel is cracked, the black goo coming out of the gearbox bellhousing is clutch material been washed out with brake cleaner.

A worn clutch seems like no mystery but this one had done less than 200 miles, a clutch specialist had fitted it, these photos where later used as evidence in a subsequent claim by the owner as a full clutch and flywheel had to be fitted.

What had they done wrong?

release bearing clip missing?

Yahoooooooooo j1mmy is the WINNER :bow::bow:

Missing bearing clip had allowed the bearing carrier to rotate and jam in the clutch fork at the exact angle you see below, the second photo shows how its should fit before the clip is fitted ( clip in the background) and the last one shows the witness mark on the carrier

Also quite clearly the bearing had NOT been changed either:nono:

wohoo im winning :D

did they get some money back from the previous garage?

The other guys are will get jealous:bow:

The garage who did the work refused to pay for the replacement and the customer had to take them to the small claims courts and using our evidence won the case and got their money back but it took like 12 months due to delays etc.

Thats great news, serves them right. Some garages think they can get away with anything.

Next one, what would cause the damage below and why?

It's been hit by a piston by the looks of it. Maybe it's the wrong plug fitted and is far too long ?

but the plug doesnt look new so i doubt its after a fresh rebuild or from it being too long.

Now you're just getting cocky because you are in the lead.

Come on then smarty pants, what's the cause ?

Something was dropped into the cylinder ?

OR the timing belt snapped ?
