Right, I'll try and make this make sense...

I seem to have drastically improved my dodgy idle (fast/slow fast/slow) by fitting some new IC/intake pipes. (I'll come back to that fast slow crap in a minute)...

It sits nicely at 750rpm, although does slightly randomly fluctuate +/- 50rpm, is that normal?

But, if I press the accelerator as gently as I can, it jumps from 750 to 1500, it is impossible to get anything in between. Now, referring back to the fast slow idle, if I adjust the TPS, at the moment it is fully counter-clockwise, as even the very very slightest movement clockwise, sends the idle to 1500rpm, exactly as it was doing with the dicky idle. I can move it all the way clockwise then to no effect. Is this normal?

Also, now it is sitting at 750rpm reasonably nicely, I thought all was well, but it hesitates when you first press the accelerator, gives a bit of a cough and a splurt, then shoots into life, and also will stall whilst decelerating (it's an auto) if I don't have the heater or anything else that pulls a load switched on, which is not much fun when you lose brakes and steering!

Any ideas? I have done a vacuum test, slight leak which I fixed, changed all visible fuel lines as I had a leak, replaced IC/intake hoses as 2 were cracked, removed, tested and cleaned the AAC valve and the Idle control valve jobby thingy, and cleaned all connectors I could find ... Tommorrow I will be removing, testing and cleaning the air regulator, any other thought or ideas on this?

Any help is vastly appreciated!!!

the TPS has the idle switch within it (connector is at the bottom of the TPS) give that a clean as that may cause your problems. More easily tested if someone near you has a Conzult as you can see what the switch is doing.

I marked it precisely first, so I can put it back, but I need to edit my first post, it is fully CLOCKWISE not counter clockwise... I've done all the tests, resistance, voltage etc. and got it perfect on the multimeter at least, but idles at 1500rpm, the only way I can get a nice idle is to have it fully clockwise... I've got the info for setting it up again, have already done it but will triple check everything is right tomorrow, could it be knackered? Should I be able to rev the engine between idle and 1500rpm? BTW I cleaned all the connectors up today, whilst I was doing all the necessary tests....

get it on a consult and you can see what it reads when throttle is fully pressd iirc 4.00? vjay?

I had to replace mine as it wouldn't respond when adjusting it. I didn't have a problem with idle though, it just showed as being an incorrect voltage on ConZult. Fitted a replacement and was able to set it up on ConZult.

Somewhere between 0.42 - 0.44 volts on idle. Is it that high when depressed? Had no idea.

yes 0.45-0.5 depressed but 4.0 fully pressed i think, but im too lazy to check.... guess im gunna look now anyway.

The slightest movenment will cause the voltage to adjust, sometimes even tightening the screws will pull it out of place, so having a marking probably isn't accurate enough ;)

Thanks, just done a fair bit of research, gonna sort it tomorrow if it kills me, and clean up the air regulator and the throttle bodies too, as I said, the idle is pretty nice at the mo, it's just the hesitation and the stalling that is starting to pull my pants down, spank my ass and laugh in my face, shouting 'ha ha, ha ha, you can't find me!'

I have been drinking :duffer:

Anyone got anyother suggestions that might be the cause of hesitation from idle, and stalling? Anything at all, I'd rather check something and know it's right that not check it....

Cheers ya'll!

Vacumn leak, Incorrect timing, dirty throttle valves, unmatched throttle opening.

check for leaks again as me & dan done a boost leak test & seemed a.ok but when we sprayed wd40 around throttle boddies with engine running the revs picked up as it sucked it in! dodgy gasket also spray it around balance bar & the idle control valve, as it also has a gasket. after we done this & it idled much better...but my timming is way out so i gotta do that out now....this makes it hesitate & stall...so could be an idea to get a timming gun while your under the bonnet!!

I have replaced the O rings on the balance bar, fitted a new gasket on AAC thingy with the throttle valve tackle when I cleaned it up, fitted 4 new IC/intake pipes which are nice and soft and a lovely snug fit... Definately gonna check the timing after I have cleaned out the Air regulator and the throttle bodies, the car had a blown piston when I bought it, so oil clogged basically everything it could up, cos the previous owner kept driving it on 5 cylinders and blasting oil all over the show!

Thanks for the input everyone! I'll keep ya 'posted' (pun intended) with the results...
