Vid when trying to track down missfire.

Sounds a bit rubbish as running on 5 but you can hear the difference between the 2 exhaust modes.

yea sounds very nice john id leave it open sounds alot better lol

or closed not sure how it works lol

It's the same as mine will be, butterfly valve on an actuator that opens and closes to bypass the rear silencer box

yea i bet you would but the section 59 would be worth it

it sounds ace mate

Yeah it sounds better but it's also LOUD!!! Would get nicked in about 10 seconds!

Can you have it 1/4 open? 1/2 open? 3/4 open?

Neighbours must love you :P

That's the benefit of the quiet pipe! It's actually quite civilised like that. There's a fiesta a round the corner that makes more noise  million watt stereo and 3" exhaust on a 1.1 - Nice!

dude, that sounds so amazing, please take me out in it :D

Glad you all like it. Will happily take you a spin but at this rate it might have to be in 2010!

Ah you'll get it sorted, just a problem with you working away from home all the time buddy.

The V8 is looking further and further away for me but that's money holding me back not time :(

It's soooooo frustrating though

If I had a couple of solid days to work on it with the right tools I'm sure I'd get it sorted but I just don't have the time at the minute. Work-wise it should calm down soon as I'm just finishing up commissioning one project and the next one will take most of the year in design time so will be back in the office then most of the time hopefully.

Tell me about it :headvswal lol

Well hopefully the both of us will be finished by the summer so when they're both done we'll have to swap cars and see what the differences are if you're up for that? :D

Why not, should be interesting.

Good man, I have a feeling yours is going have a lot more power top end. With the solid roller rockers and roller cam it should give mine punch up top but your's will rev alot higher. I have a feeling mine'll have a bit more guts from idle but being a modern engine yours shouldn't be that far behind even with a smaller displacement.

Can't wait to fill santa pod with the sound of raw unadulterated V8 power :hyper:

Sounds about right, what sort of CR are you running on yours?

Still considering carb? Just thinking with what holleys cost a decent management system will not be much more.

Never mind santa pod, it's the 'ring I'm looking forward to :D

It should be about 9.4:1 as far as I remember Rudy saying he'd worked it out as. Trying to keep the compression low enough to run it with standard ron petrol instead of race fuel. Everything is forged including the valves to make sure later on if i run nitrous/turbos/blower it should take it.

Looking at a 750CFM Holley Double Pumper with mechanical secondary and manual choke and a Mallary HyFire Double Spark Ignition System (a bit more than a standard dissy but gives better performance and tuning).

I have a fuel injection distributor on the car already but the whole engine management setup would be about the £1500 for the inlet manifold, wires, plugs, ecu etc :(

I'm going to do some track days this year, i've got 2 sessions pre booked at japfest already if i can get the car finished in time!

Why not just use your existing manifold, tap some holes in it for the injectors then put a 4 barrel throttle body on it?

Your existing ignition system would not need modified for most ECU's

I could do but when you add up everything, carb route is about 500 quid and efi is 2k if you use the holley setup.

Even using throttle bodies you're probably talking around the £1000. The prospect of efi looks good on paper and i know it'll save alot on petrol and give me more power/control but if i go for that the car won't be finished till the end of the summer. I can always convert it later on when I have the money, the beauty of chevy - bolt on goodies :D

Fair enough, at least while you're running carb it'll give me an edge

I just know from the old school LS6 454 on a boat I helped build that the holleys are really, really crude.

You're right though, easy to convert at a later date, you can keep scouring ebay for cheap bits! Don't be blinkered by the yank idea that you have to one of those manifolds they love and a 4 barrel body, runners and ITB's work just as well on a chev as any other engine, just think the yanks can't figure them out!!

pmsl

If you want to advise me once it's all up and running on carb on what you think would be a good setup i'm all ears :D

I like doing things a little bit differently :D hehe
