My main concern about switching from my Scoob into a drool worthy Zed is fuel economy. I dont get paid THAT much so would have to look into this.

 

I currently get about 31/32 mpg from my scoob. I'm a VERY conservative driver with a light right foot. Most of my driving is A/B roads when commuting to work, as I dont go out much apart from that.

 

I'm not looking for "on your bike, son" kind of comments as to obtaining that kind of MPG, but still.... Try me, if you become very conservative, what can you get out of them? I'd be interested to hear the comparisons between the nasp and TT models

Well my NA is as far as you can push an NA without changing the internals and i regularly get over 30mpg on the motorway. I've had 36 out of both sitting at 65 on the motorway, keeping it below 3000RPM

 

Combined you're looking at around 25-26mpg in the NA and about 22-23mpg for the TT. I've owned both and the NA is more fun, sounds better and cheaper to insure...

 

which is why i'm sticking a 6.3 Chevy V8 in my new one :rofl:

Plenty of threads about this mate. I drive a tt auto and i get 10 or 11 mpg on short journeys on a & b roads but i do give it some welly, after all why get a z if you just want to pootle about. On longer journeys it does do alot better, i havnt worked it out but its probably close to 20mpg.

 

Mine isnt a daily driver so fuel price doesnt bother me that much, saying that though im now paying nearly 30p a litre less than i was 6 months ago when i bought it so its getting a bit more use.:hyper:

Figures for a TT auto are about 15 - 20 mpg round town but on a motorway at a steady 3000 rpm trip up to lakes at new year I got 29.8 mpg. I was only driving like that because of a weeping water leak which released water pressure so I didn't want to over strectch the cooling.

 

If I had of driven at an average over the legal limit, + 20 with no breaking and accelerating all the time I know from experience the average would have been just over the 30 mpg

 

It all depends how you drive an auto and it's all about conservation of momentum if follow, not using the power continuously to regain an 10 - 20 mph with a 1.5 ton vehicle

And when you drive the Zed like it can driven, say bye bye to your bank balance as many on here can tell you !

My TT always returned 22-24mpg average, but would do over 30mpg on a long steady motorway run. Both my NA's were about the same overall too.

 

In theory the NA is few mpg more economical in everyday driving, and a few mpg less economical on long motorway runs (higher final drive ratio - revs higher for same speed).

 

If your flooring it everywhere then you expect figures to drop into the low teens.

I like that number. I'm very conservative and most of my time is spent at 50-60 on A or B roads. Would people say that with conservative driving and low revs, this is typical of a nasp Zed?

If your planning on using it as a daily driver as i have dont even think about it if you havent got the money as it will all be going in your tank!!Mine is a twin turbo auto and it doesnt matter if you drive it like the pope or like hamilton-it is awfull!!i have been getting 8-12 mpg this week and its in A1 mechanical order.When it was bit warmer i could get around 18mpg if i took it steady.Havent a clue about the NA as i dont see the point in it.

It really depends on the zed, i did the calculations based on filling to the brim then refilling at half a tank to the top and it was the same for both, and the tt was auto. As one of the guys says above it's about momentum on the tt's. Heavy car so if you're light footed enough you can squeeze some rather high mpgs out of them.

 

I've always had fresh plugs in mine, regular oil changes and always checked the tyre pressures and it makes a difference.

 

At the moment i get about 70-80 miles for every 10 quid (29mpg) dipping to 14-16mpg on just town driving but concidering most cars don't do that much round town it's not that much

I'm liking the sound of that. I do have some leway to play with so I'm not TOO bothered about losing a few mpg, mid 20s should be fine by me :D

yeah but when you have to drive it so carefully to get good mpg you have to ask your self whats the point?i bought mine for the power but im getting so pissed off putting petrol in and not been able to fully enjoy it,it gets a bit annoying.If i could get a second car thow it would be a different story maybe then i could enjoy it a little!

I'm mostly a commuter so power really isnt a huge problem. Will be nice to just put my foot down occassionally at weekends and play.

125bhp!i assumed it was a wrx and was thinking 31/32 is pretty good!the power is awesome i must admit.cars of this type wernt realy built with economy in mind so can moan to much-at least you know what to expect now.

Yeh, mine is only a nasp GX Sport model. Couldnt afford insurance on the WRX/STI. Seeing as most uk turbos are getting higher mileage and have a reputation for melting randomly. Plus I want to enjoy some power before I get a girlfriend who's in the same country as me, or my girl comes over and I settle down and am banned from enjoying myself.

i know i was gona get a wrx before my zed but couldnt find a decent one and insurance is harsh on them-the zed is very cheap on insurance so thats a bonus.My mrs has been driving mine more than i have recently and shes thinking of buying it of me she loves it that much!its a car that gets a lot of female attention thats always a bonus lol

I owed an nasp zed, then a wrx, then a TT zed.

They all seemed the same to me on petrol, except the wrx had a shitty small fuel tank so i was forever filling it up

That is one thing with my Sport. I'm forever at the pumps, even though I'm getting 31mpg. Stupid Subaru

I think a lot of this is how a zed is set up + running, i've had three.One uk + two jap, all manuals, all took the same daily hammering/tootle to work.

Funny thing is, my first two were low 20's mpg, this one is between 25-30++ mpg , it does get run hard through the first few gears at least once a day.

Admittedly, i do try and avoid towns+, but i use it everyday+ as often as i am able. :dance:

I'd go for a manual matey, at least then you have control of what gear/revs etc, but what do I know, I've got an auto! And if i could get her fully functional for a day, I'd tell you my MPG, haha, to be fair tho, it was a right pup when I bought it for peanuts, still grafting on it, so I ain't complaining, love revving her up in my garage and annoying the neighbours ;-)

newbie here! just in the process of buying a 300zx swb manual twin turbo. just sold my 300bhp impreza turbo uk spec. the most i could get to a full tank was about 205miles and that was driving like miss daisy for a week! if i nailed the a**e off it (as i quite often did!) it would go anywhere between 140 and 160 to a full tank! roughly equates to 18mpg for driving like miss daisy or anywhere between 9-12mpg when giving it a bootfull! full tank would last me just over 5 days with a round trip of 32miles a day just going to and from work (mostly on A roads). hopefully picking my z up on sunday and can't wait!

Ive just started using our lasses car for work cos the zed is so heavy on petrol. I get less than 10mpg cos of all the speed humps on my way to work, Im not too bothered its just a shame I cant drive her every day

it is the stuff like speed bumps and islands that kills it o and country roads.if you live somewere that isnt designed like a super special circuit (like telford:))then it could be okay:dance:

hey chandem, thanks for the welcome! it's a Targa top. Im hoping its as good as the guy says cause im travelling a long way to see it/ pick it up! 4 and a half hour drive!

If fuel is an issue I wouldn't even consider it if I was you. Running costs can be high and these cars are getting old so invariably things go wrong. If you haven't got spare dough or petrol use is an issue I'd stay well clear.

I found I got slightly worse mpg when I switched from my tuned TT to my STI Scoob!

 

That said you don't really spend much time off the loud pedal in the scooby other than when you want to stop!
