Lightening Flywheels - an exercise in Rotational Dynamics

I was looking for forumulas to equate mass reduction from the drivetrain to power response. While I was doing so I came across this article on Lightening Flywheels which I think is very good. Some may find it interesting. Its copyrighted so I can't copy it in, but click on the link below.

Very interesting, must agree with the comment about engine braking is improved. My NA runs a lightened flywheel and full unorthodox pulley system and although the idle is very very slightly off, the pick up in 3rd and upwards makes a huge difference and engine braking is fantastic.

 

You get pushed into your seat at just over 1250rpm in the first 3-4 gears and even in 5th it hauls ass on the motorway but it does seem to lose that urgency when you approach 130mph on the track
