Guys - I have a worn OEM steering wheel on my Zed. While it looks tatty and I have a replacement wheel with boss adaptor, I am loath to replace it anything other than the original wheel. Based on the pricing of an OEM wheel (which is horrendous - you'd buy a donor car cheaper) this won't happen.

I feel that somethings just look better in stock, and the steering wheel to me is one obvious example (personal taste of course-so no offence intended).

Now does anybody know, if there is any company/individual who can refurnish the outer ring/grip part of the steering wheel? Does such a service exist or has anybody got it done. If you have, any chance of some pics.

Thanks in advance.

Any 'reputable' and quality trimming place should be able to retrim your old wheel. Not sure if you have any good trim shops in Ireland, but I can recommend 2 that I have used over here, Krych Trimming in Bristol who did the interior on my Z and also Seats Galore near Southampton who've done work on some of my previous cars.

Hi Chayden, if like me you have a jdm import your steering wheel will have grubby leather from heat damage in Japan, I bought a second hand one on ebay plus there might be good examples on here for sale could work out just as cheap as getting one refurbished the only difference in steering wheels is some have cruise control some dont.Mine cost about £45 from Japan! but you will get uk wheels and a lot cheeper.

Thats good value if its in good condition. Yeah mine is a jap import too and the wheel really looks bad.

Paul swz was selling nice cream leathered wheels couple weeks ago

I need a black one, but I'll drop Paul a PM and see if he has any near perfect ones.

Let me know when you have it off. If I'm not sorted by then, I'll take it. The condition of mine, winds me up, so I don't know if I can last that long :)

  • 3 weeks later...

i would deff try & buy a used one in good nick! as getting a trimmer to do it will cost quite alot as they have to hand stich the whole way around the wheel!!!

You can get a cover off ebay for 15 quid and stitch it on yourself. Not perfect but ok for the interim.

I was under the impression it was done by machine? I popped into a trimmers today, said it was about £200 to do a steering wheel.

I did mine with a needle and nylon thread it looks ok although if your after the professional finish then you get what you pay for :-) I'm pretty happy with mine looks nice feels ok and did not cost a bomb. my intnetion was to wait until a mint one came up or until I spotted an after market one that I like. By the way there are different types. Make sure you get the right one. Mine is an early one with a hole into which a black piece of plastic slots which I believe operates the Hicas. The later ones have three brass rings on the back. I have one of these in V good condition if any one wants it I got it by mistake.
