Had my xbox 360 Elite for 11 months and 20 days now.....

Loving COD 4 and COD WoW on it.

Treated meself to the PS3 a few days ago and guess what.....

I now have the ring of Death on the 360 - not happy - this has happened to all my friends who have had to return to Micorsoft and lost their gamesaves etc- well they aint having my hdd - Shop I bought from has closed down so gonna try calling microsoft on Friday and see what they will do.

PS3 is fine for Bluray and media but dont rate it for the quality of games - I dont think Turismo 5 touches Forza 2 on the 360 - also (personally) dont like the ps3 controller.

Still happy with it but wish ms would sort out the 360 probs!!!!

Hi my kids have xboxes they had the same thing if you wrap a towl around the xbox and leave it it on for 2-3 hours it discharges the static which makes the ring of death, after 5 months of doing this i phones microsoft and they replaced 1 and fitted a new motherboard and cd in the other.

cheers - I had heard that but if i fix it now it will be out of warrant y in a weeks time and i wont be able to get it sorted.

(I dont think it discharges static - its meant to heat up the solder to allow it to *run* and cure any dry joints) - I cant see how that works either looking at the melting temp of solder but I do agree wrapping it in a towel has worked for lots of people.

as above, i did this with a towel several times no an early xbox, but because it didn't last long before doing it again i just left the towel on it wilst running, it was fine.

I have an elite now and didn't realise you can still get it on these

ring of death is on warranty for 3 years microsoft changed it cause there were so many problems, if there wern't so many good games on it, i wouldn't be putting up with such a piece of cr@p console

I starting to think iam one of the only people that still has never had an issue with there 360. Mine is a original 2005 release version and is used nearly every day.

good luck getting it sorted.

Your not the only one mate mine has never missed a beat and mine is also a original 2005 version

Wrapping a towel around the console forces the console to OVERHEAT and MELT the chipsets, in doing that it makes the connection between the graphics card and the motherboard inside work agian! Its very bad for the console and it will break agian!!

Firstly, when returning your 360 to the repairers you only ever send the unit, no wires no hard drive.

Secondly, my warranty has expired but I was told by the MS rep on the telephone that they will honour it for a further two years.

If you haven't registered it online already then get it done and you can arrange repair collections from your computer.

Finally, have you tried removing the hard drive and turning the console on, I was advised to do this last time I had RoD and the console worked and I replaced hard drive and it's still working now - touch wood. If that fails, send it off!

I thought with the elite console that the ring of death problem had been cured.......obviously not.....

nah, I know of 3 elites now + mine that have failed.

just arranged for it to go back to ms

my mate had his elite for 6 months then got the ring of shite!

ms will only need the xbox console no hdd or leads etc & will give u 3years extended warrenty & 1months free xbox gold membership!

my dad bought a second hand xbox from ebay & the ring of shite came up within a week & ms sorted it out no questions plus 3 year warrenty etc.

it is a pain but the after sales service is spot on!!!!

love the xbox! gears of war 1&2 are my favourite games ever!!!!

What he said. Awesome games.

I got a 360 from 2005. Had the RROD back in may and it was repaired and returned within a couple of weeks. It'll be interesting how long it lasts after the 'repair'. Only time will tell i guess.

Four of my mates which have 360's also had the RROD after a couple of years. They are now all still going strong, but i do wonder if it'll happen after another 2 years (when they are then outside of the extended warrenty).

Think I'm going to add fixing Xboxes to my list of services along with ECU socketing and clock fixing !

GOW2 coop play online is the best such a good game as is fable2, fallout 3, COD5 was ok but i think it needs to bring something new in
