Hi all,

Im considering getting a new car in the coming months so thought it the ideal time to introduce myself, get to know you all and get clued up about zeds!

Im a long time lurker on PH, do post occasional under the same username, but generally havn't had the time what with working 50+ hour weeks!

My current car is saxo vtr so this next move will be a big step up, but I don't like to do things by halfs..

Anyway I'll be looking for a UK TT Manual, ideally a 93' or 94' with as low a mileage as possible :D Budget will be circa £5000, possibly a little more. Have read the generic buying guide but would like some more pointers, especially when I start actually looking at cars. Is anyone SW based and would like to offer their services in helping me look over cars when I start viewing in the coming months?

Cheers

Jake

Most UK cars tend to be on the other side of 100k miles, which is still low mileage considering the age and nothing to be concerned about, but something to bear in mind if you were hoping for much less mileage.

Hi and welcome

To be honest you are going to be really hard pushed to find one that has not done over 60k, just make sure its been properly serviced etc, spending a few quid extra now on one will probably save you loads in the long run...

Happy hunting...

Yeh, having had a look around there arn't that many UK cars on the market at the moment, which is not a problem as im not ready to buy right now, and when I am ready, I can be patient for the right one!

But I have realsied that 60k is very unlikely.. my worry with getting a car that has 100k on the clock would be reliability etc How long can those turbos/head gasket/anything else go for?? (without needing engine out repairs that I wouldnt be able to do myself!)

UK cars are much rarer anyway, only about 20% are UK models, and less and less all the time as more get broken for parts becuase of body rot.

At this age, mileage is less important than service history. There are Zed's with over 200k out there (prob not on original turbos though). Many have had the tubs replaced at some point, Glenn is selling a decent example in the Cars for sale section, which has had a lot of money spent on it.

mine has had all the rot replaced or repaired (not that it had a lot), it has 147000 miles on and still pulls well, its got history upto about 100000 miles i done the rest myself

be very wary of buying uk cars with regarding rot, i did all of the reapirs on mine with my dad, could have been very costly otherwise

Welcome to the club, Hope you find a nice example. I'm sure there will be a meet in the New Year and you will get to meet a few of us SW zedders:)

My UK series 2 with engine rebuilt 9k miles ago can be yours for 3.5k, if you like.

Thanks for the heads up, as I mentioned not ready to buy right this minute, but both cars sound interesting!
