Hi all, i need to know how many horsepower supports the stock engine(without open) of the 300zx Twin turbo. And what are the common modification to get them but trying to not break the engine?

I think one mod is to raise the turbos pressure, how many psi?

Thanks!!!

Hi, Stock power at the wheels is around 280 bhp, boost can be raised three of the most used methods

1) Electronic Boost Controller

2) Mig tips

3) manual boost controllers

boost can be raised to around 12psi on the stock ecu and internals however past that you should consider a ecu upgrade to compensate the fueling. I am currently running 14psi with manual boost controllers, and ecu upgrade, and have no running or dett problems,

I am sure that many people on here will have far bnetter knowledge on this than me, I just wanted to answer a question instead of asking!

Hi, Stock power at the wheels is around 280 bhp,

I think that should read 280 at the flywheel not wheels.

Cheers I just got so excited that I could answer this one, I forgot to read it back before posting!

280 is the stock power, but how much horsepower supports the stock engine of the TT?

Its debatable..... Some american zeds are pushing 500bhp on stock internals but at that power with the slightest of problems and its bye bye engine.

I think you could get 400-450fwhp kinda safely on a stock engine but this doesnt take into account the condition of the rings, bearings etc. On a 15 year old engine with more than 60k miles id be suprised if any are in tip top condtion.

It's a can of worms.

Brand new stock engine can hold much more than a 20 year old stock engine.

You can push it until it breaks. But it will break eventually.

If you think about it this way. The stock injectors are good for 14.5 psi which is pretty much hitting thier maximum cycle duty. The turbo's run out of puff at 16 psi.

So if you are going to change your injectors and turbo's to get more power, it wouldmake sense to put new forged pistons in anyway.

It's arguable that the stock engine will hangle 400 RWHP unopened but with tubs and injectors. Some engines have been know to produce much more on stock internals. But for how long is never known.

I think that should read 280 at the flywheel not wheels.

more like 40 at the wheels - i hate dyno's!!!

a general rule of thumb and to play it safe, good for 400bhp, then go for forged pistons.

Ok great.

And which are the most usual mods to get 400 bhp??

increase the pressure in the original turbos, remapp the ECU and manifold, right ???

plus lightweight pulley and/or flywheel and/or prop, free-flowing exhaust, cone air filter, and possibly supporting mods like spark plugs, but tbh stock injectors probably wont reach 400 (they'll get pretty close though ;) )
