It seems to be almost mission impossible these days to sell a modified Z for anywhere near what it's worth (and by that I don't mean how much you spent on it). I'm not just reffering to mine here I've had a look through the for sale sectionand any decent Z with a sensible price is just not selling. Seems like people are only buying cheaper stock ones or sheds.

I'm wondering if when I do actually have to sell for real rather than putting it up for sale and not bothering if I get a buyer just yet. Would I get more money breaking it ?.

The shell is rust free, it's got so many goodies on it which I'm sure would sell.

I'm just thinking that it may be the easier option to break it rather than sell it.

Seems like the way forward these days don't you think ?

fook this sentiment shite, i want hard cash and i will hack grind and cut off anything that anyone wants to make some cash

That has to be the best reply of the year  classic

as with all things they have reached almost rock bottom, i think over the next couple of years because of so many being broken, abused, scrapped, the ones that survive will appreciate in value. plus all the external factors dont help atm, credit crunch, petrol/tax, envirnimentalists, etc etc.

we as owners need to give them a cult status, look at ae86 twin cams which never sell for less than 10,000 over here,

i think with any car thats generally a hobby its all part of the fun doing the work and seeing it progress, most people want to start low and build up as they can afford it. Having had one for 6 years now i would gladly buy one pre-modded but it would have to be to my personal tastes and i think this is where the problem lies, everyones are different.

then you would maybe get abck some of the thousands you have given your insurance company over the years ,

if you work it out an average of 600 quid a year over 10 years thats 6000 quid they would have stole from you .. make them pay ...

It's gone up now, I'm paying £821 a year insurance.

pmsl

I think once you start modding the car, you also start reducing the number of potential customers. Anyone would pretty much accept a stock Zed for cheap money even if it wasn't their ideal colour choice or manual/auto etc

But once the mods get to the level of yours mine and some others Stu, the number of buyers who will settle for something just because that's the way it is, is massively reduced.

I've known peeps to walk away from a very nice Zed, just cos they didn't like the spoiler or bumper or full bodykit, yet underneath that it is a great car.

Only those interested in high spec zeds are them who i think are sensible enough (generally older ) to oversee what they may not like cosmetically and realise really what a bargain they are getting for an "all done and ready to roar" Zed. I know i've thrown something like 25K at mine, at 10K it would be a steal, IMO

Think C'J has got the most for a modded Zed (eventually), but then i think his was up to around 30K spent!!!

Something that no one has said but i know is true for me is that buying a near standard car at realistic money and then spending money on it bit by bit is more affordable. I couldnt afford to go out and spend a big wedge on car but 4 or 5k is affordable. I can then spend a couple of hundred £ a month on it and get it exactly how I want. That way I wont go into debt for it either and its less painless. If things get tight I just stop spending for a bit, you can't do that if your hocked up to the eyeballs.

Mike

PS just re-read it, sorry for saying affordable so much pmsl

so your saying you would buy mine then, i want 5k for it and its already had a fortune spent on it

very affordable lol

sold, where do i sign?

ah no, just realised says "soon for sale" on your sig, i'll be skint by then, sorry Al

if the very forum who supports these motors mince on about how litlle they are worth, no wonder they are going for peanuts

The opinions of a couple of hundred members on here have little or no bearing on the market value of the car.

Christ I need me eyes tested! :D :duffer:

Yep you do!!

i was going to suggest a brain test at the same time .... but then I remembered you are a Southerner...........;)

So test not required as result already known:x:

:D:D:D

You've also got to factor in the ignorance of many buyers. You give them a spec list as long as your arm and they'll make the appropriate noises but essentially, unless they really know what they're being shown, the car you've spent £££££'s on just looks like the other 3 they've seen down "Del Boy's Motors" or on Ebay for a lot less...and when, particularly with the latter, they've read the ever present wild exclamations of power and trumped up modifications, the unknowing buyer will often think with his wallet. With cars that have had "mad" engine swaps it's a bit less of a problem as they can physically see a big change and even if they know bugger all the bloke-ish "cor, it's got a ruddy big engine shoe-horned into it!" factor kicks in. Without sounding too much like a borderline sociopath, people are essentially cattle and very easily led by simple signs and cues...the trouble with a nice, well modified Z is that it simply doesn't tick enough of the "lay-mans" boxes.

From somebody who'd never even heard of a 300zx before I think alot of people wouldn't even know where to find one in the first place.

Best decision I made buying a zed, i'm on my 4th now but if it wasn't for the fact i drove past it and thought what the hell is it i would have never bought one and that unfortunately is the common problem with the value, not enough people know what it is to push the value up yet.
