Breaking it you will make a few quid though...

ok, iv sourced another shell..

its an auto.

how much roughly to put the engine, box, clutch into that car?

would it be a manual to auto conversion aswell? or strait forward as the engine and box is from my manual

if its an auto, surely you can take out the auto box and put in your manual and associated bits, get in touch with zworld for a rough price mate, but dont forget you can make money back to put towards this by breaking your old one

maybe look for a NA and swap your brakes and engine too, that way you can do remove the hicas at the same time

Hi, sorry to hear about your crash. If you do decide to break I may be interested in the Teins.

just a thaught,

the part of the car, where the wing bolts onto is damaged.

can i not just cut the panel out?

then weld a new one in from another Z???

To be honest, ANYTHING can be repaired, it's just is it economically viable to do so.

If you gave that car to a main dealer to fix, their labour rates of £60++ per hour would just blow the costs out of proportion.

If you could find an independant garage the costs will be much lower. If you can find a mate to do it even better!!!

Looks like it will need a bit of jigging to get the front slam panel back into position first tho.

I would think it's easier to repair that bit than to re-shell an entire Z though............

To add:

If the chassis leg has been pushed back into the bulkhead at all I'd say don't mess with it.

what part is the chasis leg?

the actual 2 bits underneath the whole car?

or the bits on the sides, where the wings bolt onto

is that a tommy kiara edition

na its not,

just has a Tommy Kaira sticker on the door (looks nice)

i wana fix it dont wana re-shell :(

You got a big job on your hands mate.

I personally wouldn't feel safe with the car after that. You're more than likely going to have all sorts of problems if you do decide to fix it.

know what you mean.

my biggesst thing, is that it doesnt start after crasht. (could be number of things)

also, there was oil everywhere from my car :(

now the damage doesnt look like it would have hit the engine? and the sump wouldnt have hit nothing??

  • Author

jsut read a previous post, didnt mount the kerb,

so asuming its the oil cooler or piping at the front.

the piping to the turbos etc - there is no chance of that getting hit, or anything else i can think?

Oil is more than likely from the oil cooler at the front of the car.

I wouldn't even attempt to start it as it probably has no oil in it.

The boost pipes are also kinked so the air flows gonna be restricted and I have a feeling that the MAF has probably packed up on impact looking at your air filter.

Very cheap maf on ebay at the moment.

Already gone sorry.

The chassis leg is the large rectangular box section that runs either side of the engine.

I don't know why you guys are so afraid of repairing cars? Crashed cars have been repaired ever since cars were made. It's only a bit of metal that needs bashing back into shape :wack:

The difference comes if you have a good repair or a bad repair. If you have a good repair it will be back to manufacturers standard or better!

Plenty of us are Ok with repairing cars. :)

in this case it will need more than bashing out tho. The very minimum it will need is pulling on a body dozer. If there is any suggestion of chassis rail being kinked near or beyond the anti roll bar/crossmember area then it will need going on a full measuring jig.

its all down to time. your own skills and cost of having it straightened. Then there is the cost of replacement parts. Time to fit and get it all painted. I reckon you are looking at over £1K to repair. you need to balance this against the value of the car. Nobody can decide for you you have to make that call yourself.

BTW... Here is one I made earlier!!!

ive found a shell for £200.

but then id have to pay someone, about £500 to swap my engine and box into.

and then convert it to manual, more cash.

and MOT it.

if a get mine jigged, £600 ?

then say £200 for the parts (bumper, bonet an wing, and suspension arm)

hopefully in black, so wont need painting.

i can weld and fit the parts myself. just the jigging part.

id imagine it to work out the same to repair as to re-shell

the car was worth 4 grand say?

if i break, il get about £1000 back. losing about £3000.

maybe better to fix it, but it seems a lot of work tho, and dont know if i can be arst to spend more money onit.

i have s swb shell if you want it ?

pm for details

i would look at repairing it i have seen worse !

thanks paul,

but the shell is cheap enough to buy.

its the cost of swaping the engine and box, and MOT etc thats putting me off the re-shell.

tbh its the best time to buy a zed because at the moment you can buy a very good example for next to nothing !

oh bugger it was that black one... :( thats really upsetting i really liked that one...ALOT.
