I read a lot of of threads on the site that suggest the Zed is a pretty unreliable car, but I have found this to be the case with most car Forums as people don't start threads like 'my car has no faults today'.

Obviously they post threads to get help or give help.

I have had my Zed for over 18 months now and it came with 2 faults which were fixed nice and easy.

It had a major service just after I bought it, had it chipped & 1mm boost jets fitted.

I would just like to say that it has been completely fault free since. Not a single issue (other than self induced problems caused by my tinkering).

I know this might seem a silly thread starter, but I just thought it would be nice to hear of some other members that have had no real problems with their Zeds.

I bet there are more than we realise!:)

To be honest, over 18 months maybe a little more i did 12k miles in my 300zx TT and it never once gave me a problem.

Apart from a dead battery which it had two weeks before it got sold.. grr! LOL

It had some money spent on it, exhausts, brakes, change from auto to manual, but they were all my choice to improve it. But the car didnt actually need the work doing.

Hi Craigy

Mines the same. I've had the mods like yours and put a Mongoose exhaust on... but not de cattted it I use it as a daily driver and keeping it running like that Jeff at Zedworld reckons it does it the world of good. Zedworld have looked after it ever since I bought it and they've done a great job with everything.

I just love driving it, whether pootling round town at low speeds or a blast up a dual carriageway or motorway and the best of using the power is to minimise overtaking distances on an open road although I sometimes have to shake off a lot of speed when pulling back in !

Best Toy I've ever had

Mine's not missed a beat since Jimmer did the rebuild, nearly 3 years ago now. Even then, it never let me down. If the previous owner (Shipper in Japan) had refitted the connectors for the wastegate solenoids after removing a previously fitted boost controller, it wouldn't have needed it. But yeah, no problems here. Been very impressed. Starts first turn of the key, smooth engine, strong boost, no oil leaks or oil consumption) I kept hearing 'horror stories' before buying mine, so I was expecting something as unreliable as a politician's word.

TBH, I think most people have few issues with them considering what they are and how old they are. It's only the abused/unmaintainted examples that tend to break. I bought a decent example and maintained it well and it's been fine.

Look after one and generally, it'll be fine.

Admittedly, my Zed is purely my 'Toy', it is only used when I want to, but not because I have to. Still it has been very reliable, just has I expect a Japanese car to be, obviously being an old & complicated car, you can expect some issues.

Its just if an outsider were to read this forum they would get the impression that the 300zx is dreadfully unreliable and I don't think it is.

Find a good one, look after it and it will be as reliable as most cars.

Well, that's the point of this forum. For sharing information. I'm sure all the other forums are the same and at first glance seems that all cars have problems.

I've only had my Zed for four weeks and covered five hundred plus miles in it. No problems other than the usual window module and a flat battery (my fault). Looking at this forum, I keep on half expecting something to go wrong :( but I'm convinced that I've bought a good 'un. :)

The previous owner (Neil Morris) has done a lot to the car and in general, the car feels like it has been well looked after. I think that it comes down to the obvious, buy a well looked after example and keep it that way.

Mine's always been reliable. Not long after I bought it (originally as a daily driver), I changed jobs and drove the Z 50 miles each day.

It's been a second car for a few years now but I still try to take it on most of our holidays - often driving it (fast and hard:nono:) for 1500 plus miles in a week without a hitch.....

It's really only cost me money this year; firstly needing HICAS joints for the MOT, then £1200 for an auto box rebuild and the other week I needed a new petrol tank (cheers Snoopy:bow:) as the straps had rusted and become abrasive hence they wore through the tank.

So apart from tyres and regular servicing; I don't think that repair costs amounting to around £1700 during a total of 35k miles is too bad for a 16 year old junior supercar:bow:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

My UK TT Manual is my 2nd zed in a row, i bought it knowing it had a few problems, ive done all the work myself and gained loads of knowledge on how to fix things, i now help other members fix theirs local to me. It is now far more reliable than when i first got it, in better condition and much quicker too. I enjoy getting mucky and smashing my knuckles, but for me its a passion and the best of hobbies.

If i look after her she will look after me.
