intermittent boost strong with little throttle though ??

just bought my first 300zx i love it but a slight problem .....

ive been told i need new plugs .. however i just thought id prefer to ask the audience and go with the majority ..

the car seems to have a bit of a lumpy tickover boost goes up to 7ish on normal boost guage .. if i depress throttle slowly i get plenty of power but if i depress quickly it does not like it at all i have to pull away at junctions just easing throttle on if i plant it im sure it would either stall or do the biggest kangaroo ever ...

ive ordered new plugs will be fitting sunday.....

but any other suggestions are welcome

car has k&n filter and rear exausts changed ..

ive ordered cat free pipes a jw chip and a cou[ple of welding nozzles so far but nothing fitted yet till i iron out the first prob ..

any help much appreciated

Rob Wilde :-)

i just want a fast 300 zx :D

7PSi is safety boost. Could be a number of things causing that. DET sensor, maf, or boost leak. Although a boost leak wouldn't show up as an error on the ECU diagnostics.

Do you know how to read the codes from the ECU?

so do you think changing the plugs will not make any diffrence. i have taken 2 plugs out and they seem fine iridium ones looking new aswell ..

how much is a det sensor is it hard to fit ??

whats a maf??

will the diagnostics tell me exactly whats up ??

anyway thanks for the reply ..

cheers

I don't know. I think the car would be struggling to idle if the plugs were bad enough to knock it into safety mode. But you'd probably get a DET sensor code for that. DET sensors are a bit of a bitch to do. It's usually the loom that gives up rather than the sensor itself.

MAF is Mass airflow meter. Diagnostics should give you an idea of what might be working incorrectly. I'd start there first before you start buying loads of things you may not need.

good job you know id have put them in aswell . ;-(

They'd have still fitted, but I think you may have gotten detonation as the plug gappings are different.

i have just ben reading funky do you think i should do all the connectors the tps and det connector etc and fuel filter and air filter just for good measures..

looking at most of the things on other sites people seem to point toward the det sensor as you said ..

they also mention cleaning all electrical connectors on main components the air flow sensor and coolant temp sensor crank sensor etc..

anyway thanks for the info im sure i have lots to keep me busy for a few sundays now ..

i hope i can get it singing as i cant wait to get cracking on the modding side LOL ;-)
