I will be racing against 500Hp supra.ZX experts please read

Thia ia a repost from tt.net. I need as much advice as possible.

So here is the situation.

There is going to be the biggest competition in my country 1/4 mile with proper time slips and everything. (Thats for first time). Thousand of people will attend and I will be the only guy with a 300ZX racing. There is going to be skylines, rx-7 etc etc.

Today they informed me (actualy they confirm) that i will be racing against a 500Hp Supra. Therefore I will need some expert advice on the following. The event is after 2 weeks.

I am stage III (Blitz induction kit, 2.5" BB triflo, and JWT ECU. currently running 14.5)

Here is what i intend to do:

CAR IS TWIN TURBO MANUAL

a) Racing gas (Planning to run 17PSI)

b) Strip interior

C) I will be using slicks

d) I will also install Downpipes

e) Remove exhaust system. Replace with 3" pipes only. No mufflers

f) 100NOS wet kit

g) Install TEIN suspension)

Everything else is stock...

---------------------------------------

Now my question is this....Am i going to have a safe run?

Is it safe to run 17PSI with 100NOS? What HP shall i expect?

If you have any suggestions please let me know. I dont want to get embarrased by s supra in front of 1000s of people.

Supra is rated 500HP with racing gas.

hope ya dont blow ya engine bud!

at 17psi id hope ya engine is in tip top condition,17 psi is something ive done just once and it wasnt for a 1/4 of a mile.

good luck and i hope ya blow the supra off and not ya engine.jay

Would Traction control/Launch control be an idea as the soup has TC. Could be slippy fun when the NOS kicks in.

Like I said, i will be using racing gas. I hope thats safe.

Was it with racing gas you went 17PSI or just normal fuel?

Nitropow. What clutch are you using?? Need a high performance single plate at least with those mods. More preferablely a twin plate item.

Twin plates hold about 500ft/lb of torque.

Hope this helps,

Robert.

I only use the brakes so I can accelerate all over again.

http://bagpuss.swan.ac.uk/dunk300zx/ For awesome car & bike mpegs.

To be honest my man, I think you will lose, if he is pushing out 500 bhp he will have bigger turbos and intercoolers.

Are you running stock turbos and intercooler and injectors? if u are you will lose. Stock at 17 psi the most you can hope for is 420bhp, if your engine is tip top! with the 100 shot of NOS you might make 500bhp.

I agree with Dunk, you need a decent clutch to hold that power. If I was you and you need these parts in a hurry talk to the boys at Stillen and get yourself Bigger turbos, injectors, and Intercoolers

It's warm over there, pack your intercoolers (not the inside!) with dry ice just before the run.

Traction control will be useful, but you'll need quite a lot of slip dialled in to prevent the engine bogging down as the wheels spin.

Forgot to mention. I already have racing clutch.

This is going to be 2 day event and there is going to be 2 test runs and one 1/4 mile run (5/10/2002). I will not do the test runs. Just 1/4 mile and I will not use NOS.

Only next day (6/10/2002) when I will be racing with supra guy NOS will kick in.

By the way...What is tip top condition of the engine? Can somebody explain this to me?

just so you know, if your experiencing detonation ect , youll run up the circuit slower than normal, 1/4mile racing is all about 60foot times and these cars arnt good at that so i doubt youll beat him.

if your engine has any minor internal damage its not advised to run 17psi, your maxing out stock injectors.

keep tyre pressure very low id say to help launch

Sounds dangerous to me. You should know more imo before attempting this kind of race.

Is it really worth potentially fooking your engine for ?

Best bit of advice I could offer is practice your launches, 300 is not an easy car to launch, but the supra is no picnic either. You may be down on power but if you launch well, the supra will be hard pressed to make up the difference in 1/4 mile.

Good launches have seen a lot of less powerful cars beat some really powerful ones.

Or alternately borrow warrens car wink.gif

I will be testing my car and launches next week.

I also have second thoughts about raising my boost to 17 PSI. I will keep it lower at about 15.5PSI.

Hopefully with slicks and good suspension (and of course my launch technique) will give me some good 60 foot times.

Fingers crossed. I hope after this competition my Z will still be healthy.

Totally agree.

I have beaten many a supposedly faster car just because I have launched well. If you get the launch right and have a good head start on your competition this can often lead them to give up early and you to cross that line first with a big grin on your face.

Practice those launches. I'm not going to give away my particular technique but don't try and build big revs and dump the clutch.

Good luck!

Grant

P.S. how can I get the video from my Sharp ViewCam in to the P.C. If I can get this done I will post a Video of me racing, and beating, a Cerbera.

KEEP IT SIDEWAYS!

Does your viewcam have Digial out so you can plug it into your computer? If not its video/TV capture card.

What tapes do they use? If you want you can send a copy of the tape to me, depending on whether I can use it, and I will put it onto computer.

Stuart

I'll have a look Stuart and let you know when I am indoors tomorrow.

My Camera is a Sharp ViewCam It takes "8" tapes, it only has video and audio outputs.

you need a capture devise, like Blekin usb capture card, or pinicle studios capture devise. http://www.belkin.co.uk
