Open the bonnet and look for the little black connector on top of the upper water pipe (it's next to the yellow connector). It will be loose and will require tightening. You can secure it with a tie-wrap if necessary or order a new one (I've got some coming into stock in a few days). This black connector feeds information to the dash mounted temp gauge and will be pushed back by the radiator fan as you accellerate and loosing contact.

HTH

Just noticed mine does this aswell!

Oh god not another problem!

i think u lot have overlooked the real problem here... i think alans car is subject to the natural cycle of climate change. as he accelerates, the non friendly particles that are released cause a mini pocket of zonal ice age in a localised region. your findings are important to scrat in order to provide answers to the controversial debate that global warming is actually the start of an ice age.

worry not however as the problem can be solved easily by the use of convector heaters and ghd hair straighteners...

shall i get me coat?

Well at least its an easy fix, and i think ive noticed it before just not taking much notice as its hard to keep looking at the dials whilst educating bmw's on the ring road:dance:

If the temp sensor clean and reconnect doesn't work.

It may be likely that you have an air lock.

The temp sensor sits on the highest part of the engine pipework. If you have air in here that is trapped then when you car moved the air pocket flows back and forth. The sensor can only pick up temp from water so drops as it jumps into an air pocket.

Mine drops off when i floor it and as soon as i ease off it rises again?

It will be loose sensor. Depending on how quickly it drops/rises the Temp gauge is'nt sensitive enough to rise and fall that quickly from air pockets.
