I know it's possible to get the car to idle with the MAF disconnected, but can you drive with out it for a short while ?

 

The reason I ask is that ever since I fitted the Doolz, I'm suffing WMD (Wet MAF Disorder).

 

After a fari bit of rain, some gets onto the filter and soaks into the filter itself. Next time I try and start the car it will choke and not rev above 3k rpm.

 

So I usually have to take off the filter and maf, put the filter in the over to dry out and then put it back together and all is well.

 

However to dry out properly it takes a good hour, that's (not with the oven on). I'm supposed to be at the lakeside meet by 6pm and I know I'm not gonna have time to get it fully dried.

 

In the long run I'm making an additional top splash shield and also switching the maf to the other side which is always dry.

why not just change the centre panal to a smooth one?

 

A few people including myself and even yourself if i remember right thought it looked better anyway and it would heal WMD right up

Yeah was going to do that anyway but I'm not 100% it's the headlight panel. It may be coming from the side of the panel / headlight.

Have your headlight panel follow the lines of your lovely bonnet, now that would look the *****x.

you can run with the maf disconnected, but it'll only work with standard injectors.

 

it's not recommended though: the engine will run very rich (even more with larger injectors) and you risk bore-wash when driving around like that for too long.

Actually thinking about it if I did that our cars would be almost identical.

 

I managed to drive the car last night but was spluttering for 3 miles before the MAF decided that it would behave.

Stu, will yer put up a pic of your induction kit mate, you have the Doolz don't yer :)

Take a plastic flower pot

cut out the bottom and cut down one side to give you a curved plastic sheet

place this under the headlight panel, making sure to slid the bottom between the panel mount and the top of the bumper.

one MAF rain cover ;)

TBH mate, the Doolz out of all the kits on the market puts the cones the lowest down ever.

Why not try this, tape a sheet of plastic completly across the mesh on the front of your bumper. Drive in heavy rain and even put a hose over the car and see if the car still performs in the same way. If not and the car is okay, theres your problem, it's water soak from the incoming rain/splash through your bumper mesh, if is still the same, then it's the headlight panel.

 

I made quite a few induction kits years ago for the Primera's in the UK, based on a US design called a CAI, you can actually buy a water soaking filter that goes inbetween the MAF and the cone, to prevent such problems. You would have to search the word CAI on the Primera forum to find it's name though.

Anyway try the test i said and see how you get on, oh driving around with a plastic sheet in your bumper mesh won't cause any problems short term.

Thanks for the suggestions however I know for sure that it's coming form the top. The splash from the front is not the problem, it's the top of the filter that gets wet, from either the headlight panel or somewhere around it. The reaosn I know this is that the apexi filter collects water just below the maf in it's little hollows. Also the gasket gets wet.

You mean the 'AEM bypass valve', I was under the impression these cannot be used on turbo cars
