Hi,

 

Fed up with my house never getting warm and when it finally does, it goes cold after half hour of the heating going off :( Any ideas how I can see where my house is losing heat? The only thing I can think of is to get a thermal imaging camera. My house is a semi-detached with a loft conversion but it was just as cold before the loft conversion.

do you have cavity wall insulation???, what about roof insialution, plastic windows and so on???

you got double glazing?

In the last year ive had all round double glazeing/cavity wall/loft insulating and the difference is very good

Whole house is double glazed (PVC), loft floor in insulated and so is the roof, the staircase up to the loft is open.

 

Not got cavity wall insulation, do you mean the stuff they pump into the walls? Has anyone had that done?

yup, get the walls done, it makes a hooge difference, that is where all your heat goes

 

does anyine in your household recieve any benefits, if so you may get it done fr free or at least get discount

Not sure where you'd get a thermal imagine camera. Sounds silly but it may be worth trying the airsoft forums. Someone there who's well into the toy soldier scene may have one.

My Dads got a thermal imaging camera, not sure why, lol However i'll ask where he got it etc !

other than that, you could probably try a local surveyor - they probably have contacts for new building assesments etc, or local council - i'm sure they check their buildings to meet some european regulations!

 

Or, do you know anyone in the fire brigade? You could ask them to have a look when they're passing!

Get in contact with them and see if they hire them out. I know for expensive product they do sometimes offer rental options.

only other thing i can think if is a roofing co or a cavity wall co - they'll probably use them in their sales spiel... but that's the problem, unless you can get one recommended who you'd consider to do the work?

Been looking for a good bodywork specalist for a while.

I've been wondering whether you could have a stab at this with a normal camera and a filter. What would the wavelength of the light be for heat that is escaping ?n A normal camera will show infrared, what if you just stuck a red filter over the lens and took a picture ?
