My LED sidelight bulbs started flickering. I checked them out and both bulbs have melted a bit. Looks like they've got hot - part of the plastic housing has gone brown and softened and warped.

I think they've been in the car for about 18 months. They were not cheap and from a good supplier. If you have 6000K HIDs you need them of they look very yellow compared to the headlights.

I've got the old bulbs back in as a temporary fix and new LED bulbs on order. Hopefuly they'll be better - LED technology seems to have come a long way recently.

I'm glad I've taken the melted ones out - if they'd got worse maybe they could have caused problems.

I'll post a pic of them.

Never had one melt on me before, but one stopped working. I removed the side lights totally and fitted brand new US foglights with no sidelights. Not strictly legal, but I never use my side lights. It's either dipped beam or nothing.

I'll get round to converting them though.

I thought LED's ran cooler than regular bulbs.

I've been supplying the 6000K/1W LED bulbs for over two years now and only ever had two customers come back to me and say that their bulbs melted. In both those cases the cause was traced to faulty electrics which caused the LED to overheat and subsequently melt and fail.

Having spoken to my supplier about this issue a number of months ago I was informed that in 90% of the cases the fault is due to irregular voltage supply to the bulb holder. Only in 10% of the cases was it due to there being a manufacturing fault.
