I keep filling the water up and it just seems to be vanishing into thin air, I no these cars are prone to head gasket failure but it has had a new one about a year ago, their is no white gunk under the oil cap or the dipstick, the car runs fine, just sounds a bit rough as it had a helicoil fitted as the thread had gone, is their another way the water could be getting into the engine, I have noticed that their is a lot of steam comming from the exhaust even when warm, any suggestions?

Thanks

Bloody crappy rover engines

If its the K series engine, i killed 1x 214, 1x216, always prone to HG failure, easy enough to fix, have you done a comp test.

On one of the 216's i split the side of the block.

If it was hg, would I get water in the oil?

i killed the head gasket of a 214 last year. if it was just the h/g you shouldnt get water in the oil, but if the engine has been more extensively damaged then you may do.

deffo yhead gasket, my mate had his done and within a year it was goosed again, you can get uprated head gaskets now

as above iv'e had head gaskets go before and no water in oil

had a rover 100 use to still drive it for a while after it was showing signs, just use to have trouble starting from time to time

defo consider a pressure test

I think its time to get rid, I think she wants to go back to a p10 primera 2.0, she never ever had problems with it. Could it maybe the matrix leaking, I felt down by the passengers footwell and it is soaking, mind you, a seal had come loose going through the fire wall, it may have been that.

Not always, you can get coolant into the cylinders. Depends where the HG fails. But as has been mentioned, the K-series is know for this.

my wifes got the 420 and ime waiting for the day to arrive:rolleyes:

The most comon failure on the k series head gasket is the coolant seeps out the front right under the exhaust manifold. The sealing there is very small due to a large water gallery.over time it weakens and literally pushes the gasket out.If the head has been skimed before you can get a saver shim that is sealed to the head face using wellseal.
