wow...wish I still had a mortgage now. I was paying £1100 a month before I sold up.

Just got the letter through today for my adjustment, now down to £748 that's a drop of over £500 per month in just one year.

over 14% interest rates just 15 odd years ago

Pay the extra now while you can boys and re-coup the rewards later!! I'd be overpaying while you have the chance! I saw my parents struggle and my old man lose his business and have to put 50k on his mortgage in the last recession so i've seen what it can do when interest rates hit 18% on a business overdraft... My main mortgage i've just upped the payment another £50 taking it to £1250 a month now and i'm fixed at 5% on that one till the end of feb! The extra £50 though will save me £18k overall in the time remaining on teh mortgage(21 years!!). I'm also in the privelidged position that i have a buy to let as house well and i'm overpaying £150 a month on that one now too as the rates have dropped.....so i'd be paying every extra you can off it not taking the money out!...Even if it's £10 a month which is less than the cost of 2 cans of stella a week it'll save a big chunk of interest in the longer term and stop the banks earning too much out of you!!

I was advised two years ago by several financial advisers to fix my rate a least for five years even ten. Me being clever i went for the five year option ;) I was paying £1300 i'm now paying £1300 :headvswal:headvswal:smash: And they want over £4000 to get out of my fixed rate :xxx:

yep its coming down for some borrowers...a pal told me on friday his had dropped from £2500 to £1200 pm in the last 3 months....beers are on him this xmas :)
