Just got back from my appearence at the SXOC Top Speed Challenge day at RAF Woordbridge. A dissapointing day for me, best 1/4 for me was 13.90 @ 105 MPH. Top speed was a lousey 153 mph (at least I know my speedo is 10 MPH out, nice 'n' easy to work out). My day ended early when my Z decided to go very very smokey on it's 3rd run. Turns out a pipe popped off the back of the engine and bunged oil everywhere. Managed to limp home, so it'l be up at SE for another six months whilst they put another pipe on. Was quite spectacular apparently, so someone there may posts vids. Will have to keep an eye on SXOC forum for that. Well that's my fun Sunday :r…

Andy Duff, you're forgetting that if a car travelling at 120mph hits a stationary car, both with probably be moving after the crash & so all the energy won't be used. In fact, if there was no friction, both cars would be moving at a combined speed of 60mph assuming they weigh the same! (Conservation of momentum) MV= M(V/2) + M(V/2) M=mass of car, V=120mph! That means that total energy in 120mph car before crash = 1/2* M *(V)^2 = 4 * 1/2* M *(V/2)^2 after crash, combined energy of both cars would be = 1/2*(2*M)*(V/2)^2 that means that the energy used in the crash = 4* 1/2* M (V/2)^2 - 1/2*(2*M)*(V/2)^2 = 2*M(V/2)^2 - M*(V/2)…

Me and my dad are getting better at taking pictures of space through the telescope. These pictures still very rough need work on them. You should take about 10 pictures of it and the add them all together to make a nice picture. These are single shots, or 2 pics together but we are starting to get some interesting stuff. Interesting galaxy where there really 2 galaxies which are just really close together or have passed eachother. The smaller one on the right has a higher gravatational pull and for now, the smaller one is stealing stars from the big one into its own galaxy. Cant remember which this galaxy is, but it looks good. Not the best pic of it…

Had a brain wave (with several echoes :D ). I reckon (and I do!) that the reason zeds can be bought on a BOGOF basis, is mainly because usually people wanting a supercar (like a Zed is) see it as a display of wealth/power. The branding that goes with a supercar is all-important to most people - names like Ferrari, Porsche etc. are as important (or more so) to them than the actual car. A NISSAN has no cache wrt wealth/reputation with general public and this makes them considerably cheaper. It's a bit like buying Champagne for a wedding - you want the best name, not a really good value one which is underrated and tastes almost as good as the best. The name is king for a …

Ok After ECU diags, changing my PTU to a new series 2 one, changing the temp sensor and the harness, doing a oil and filter change, cleaning the air filter and resetting the ECU I still couldn't solve the hesitation problem. So, I took the car up to Andy P this morning and he plugged in a conzult and ran a few checks, it was a case of... "good, that's perfect, yep, ok then.... WTF, that can't right" LOL Seems my left O2 sensor was running at 2.4 v on idle rather than the standard 0.25 - 0.4. When Andy disconnected it, it defaulted to 0.33 so Andy adjusted the TPS and idle. I'm now running at 750rpm idle (rather than 1,100 rpm). So I'm going to have to order a …

Argh! Stupid Sky+! My second (in six months, first one lasted two weeks!) Sky+ box has just died (no longer responds to the remote, even after reboot etc etc).. Great.. Now I have to run the gauntlet of Sky customer services, and get messed about trying to get an engineer out  Ah well. Just wanted to say that! Not having much luck with electronic goods at the moment (seeing as my new, new, Nokia 6610, which replaced my dead 7210, has the same problems as the 7210 too!)
