Im going to get rid of all that i can before i start putting her back together, several people have recommended cleaning all the arches out properly an then wax oiling them to give it a protective coat and i think its just a case of treating whatever i can find! Will let you know what i unveil! thanks again guys!

Getting a bit worried about my car being wrote off from rust, are the any notriously known spots on the car?heard tales about checking behind the rear seats, anyone know of this? tailgate which im replacing has rusted quite badly, and a power steering have done the same so alarm bells are ringing, its a 1994 uk tt. cars currently up on stands so ive got good access to underneath, also front bumper and all the radiators are off so ive got good front access to sum chasis members underneath, cleaning it up at the moment & thinkin of givin it a coat of hammerite or rust stop.any suggestions? thanks kesh
  4. Anyone ever installed a ARC induction kit, it looks bit like this but a twin box to fit the crevis where the induction box normall goes...I cant get it to sit in properly, is there something im missing? http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.nengun.com/image/catalogue/original/nengun-0658-00-arc-induction_box.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.nengun.com/arc/super-induction-box&h=259&w=300&sz=18&hl=en&start=3&um=1&tbnid=byfizLSaBfU9hM:&tbnh=100&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3Darc%2Bsuper%2Binduction%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26sa%3DG Or does anyone know where i can get some instructions with it, got it from jps trading on ebay, it has all the parts just i can get it to sit in properly! thanks
  5. cheers mate, appreciate the advice. Ill give them a try. Whilst ive got all the radiators out is there anything worth changing whilst i have access to all the belts, i was going to change my fan belt, Is the crankseal hard to change? cambelt was done 20k ago so going to leave that. Im doin a general service and if theres any other parts down there that are prown to fail i wanna replace them, ne1 suggest changing anything? cheers for the help guys, appreciated as always.
  6. Hi guys. Im having a bit of a zed nightmare at the moment, i have a corroded power steering pipe behind the front bumper, i can physically see where the fluid is spraying/leaking from the pipe. I removed the front bumper to get a closer look at the pipe, and its the pipe that runs from the power steering reservoir vertically down the car to the bottom of the bumper, along the bottom of the air con rad and the rest of the rads, then pops up through the other side of the car into the bottom of the engine. I got mike feeney to fax over the layout of the pipe on the car and in order to replace it i need to remove what seems like an additional 2/3rds of the car! the pipe runs from one side of the car to the other inter winding between other pipes. The pipe starts on rubber hose then turns into metal pipe, i wish to replace it with reinforced high pressue hose all the way through, does anyone know if this will be ok? Instead of following the pipe through its original route, (which is not the quickest route for where it goes) I want to pybass it along the crosss member and straight up to the power steering reservoir. - Can anyone see any harm in doing this? and is there any particular reason nissan laid the pipe the way they have? When i had to remove the air con radiator, the two massive nuts on either side that you have 2 release was being so arsy, i got one side off to reveal whoever did it last time corss threaded them, the other side had to be cut because it was shanked, can i just replace it with a bit of hose? the other option is a new air con rad because the pipes are welded on to the rad. arghh! any help/ advice is much apprciated, i feel like giving up! i only found out about the power steering pipe moments after i just spent a day replacing the oil sump which is fiddly enough! thanks
  7. Sorry Dan didnt see your reply in time, thanks for the info tho i ended up ordering elsewhere but cheers all the same. happy xmas guys cant wait to service her!

  9. cheers darrell, just checking on this chaps site from sxoc.he sells big brake conversion's but by the sounds of it he brings the package together himself. can anyone recommend this guy or have used him before? "330mm Plain big brake conversion (Uses R32 GTR or R33 GTS-T calipers (not supplied)" by what his site says above its seems the r32 gtr can house 330mm brakes, as opposed to stock calipers peaking at 315? correct me if im wrong guys. thanks
  10. Hi guys, a friend has offered some mint r32 gtr brakes in good working order...i know the r33 skyline brakes are a good upgrade but are the r32 gtr brakes better than the zed? thanks guys. Kesh
  11. cheers rodders thats a great help, ive got the car on axle stands so ive just gotta aquire a hoist so i can hold the engine then im getting stuck in! thanks for the heads up on the dip stick, will let u know how it goes. cheers guys
  12. Found this on ebay, bit too cheap at £28 for a brand new apexi induction kit? will this fit the 300zx? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-APEXi-Power-Intake-Air-Filter-for-NA-Turbo_W0QQitemZ270151968952QQihZ017QQcategoryZ36680QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD9VQQcmdZViewItem
  13. Hi guys, quick question...myt seem bit stupid but are the apexi induction kits you can buy for the 300zx the same as that fits to skyline r33 gtr? they look the same however would it just be the case of buying new adaptor plate to make them fit to the 300zx? thanks kesh
  14. I know i was gutted as the expected cost to tow back 80 miles was close to £300-400! luckily they didnt send an assesor down and the aa engineer said he would report it as corrosion and hope they wouldnt ask questions! luckily they didnt... Anyway does anyone have any tips or advice on the removal of the oil sump? i understand i need to release the subframe and hoist the engine slightly in order to be able to release the full oil sump, anything i should watch out for?
  15. Hi was mine there aswell by anychance? thanks kesh
  16. chees andy, aargh i thought it might need dropping a bit to get to it, would you consider it a hard job with a couple pair of hands or adviseable to take it to a garage? im fairly competent and daring so im willing to give it a go, ive looked on 300zx.org.uk and cant find a guide, any tips on the proceudure or how to do it? lol its a tt uk manual, thanks for the offer ill kindly purchase one of yourself if i cant find one, do you have one in good nick no dents or surface rust? anything else worth doin whilst im down there and have the subframe lowered? thanks again. kesh
  17. hi guys, Drove to london yesterday in the zed, whilst on route i felt a slight scrape when on a country road however it only felt like a bumper scrape as i wasnt travelling fast at the time, checked it brieflt at the petrol station shortly after and seemed fine. HOWEVER, once i got to london and got the car parked and came back to it an hour later oil was leaking and had pretty much drained out all of the oil and i could see it was blatently coming from the bottom of the oil sump. The aa came out however reluctantly informed me there was a couple fresh scrapes and the aa would not tow it back as its not covered! after some negotiation and a good chat i managed to get him to call it in and hope they dont send an assessor which they didnt! When i serviced it several weeks ago, i noticed some scrape marks on the oil sump, and a couple dents however i couldnt be sure if it was just suface damage/wear and tear.....now i know! Basically i wanna get the zed back on the road asap, was wondering if anyone has removed their sump before, is it hard? does the engine need to be hoisted slightly to remove it or can it be reached? and finally wheres the best place i can get a replacement? second hand or new? thanks guys, any advice is well appreciated. kesh
  18. cheers for the tip andy, out of curiosity why is this? ive recently purchased a 300zx and noticed the brakes arent great. my initial reaction was new pads and discs all round until i could afford a bigger caliper upgrade however im going to give DTA's pointers a try first. i wanted to keep orginal wheels for a while, does anyone know whats the max disc brake size you can get on original calipers and stock wheels? thanks guys kesh
  19. cheers guys for all the advice, no one would touch me for under £1600, a guy at sky insurance called luke sorted me right out.was a big fan of 300zx's and was at JAE this year. £1200 on my own name, so this is my first policy taken out so i can start earning some well needed no claims! took her out today for a spin and i loved every minute of it! couldnt push her too hard tho because i wanna give her a full service first. im giving her a clean tomorrow so ill post some pics, also someone might be able to shed some light on the traction control unit in the front i found. thanks again. kesh
  20. cheers for the quick responses guys! i was orginally going to be an added driver on my parents name but i think for my own benefit i might pay the extra and get it on my own name now so i can start earning NCB. skyline insurance advised me it would be easier to get a quote in 3rd party fire and theft for first year and then change to fully comp after (£1200), altho its a big risk im thinkin it might be worth it. im going to be driving it mainly this summer and only when dry so its goin to get minimal use over winter. which makes me think maybe temporary insurance maybe more worth it, insuring it for the next 3 months then taking it over the road, or i could pay for the whole year and then cancel it when i want to to take it off the road in the winter and get a rebate on my remaining insurance? had a little surprise the other week when i was cleaning the car, i noticed there was a false kick panel on the passenger side foot rest, i took the carpet up and unscrewed the plywood panel to find the ecu had been relocated along with another little box attached to it, i found out the guys number who owned the car for the last 9years from the history and gave him a call, he didnt even realise it was there! after having another look i realised its an aftermarket traction control unit fitted! the button still works when u click it and it lights up, not used for years! its not a race logic one but a company called bungy i think. i will double check, ne1 kno how to post pictures? anyone going jae tomorrow? gunna pop down then definately. cheers joel for pointing me in the right direction, will enquire next week.
  21. im interested in one so put me down assuming the test fit works out all cushty. thanks kesh
  22. Hi Guys, I am now officially the proud owner of my first 300zx, ive been a subscribed memeber for a few years now meticulously looking through all the new threads each night reading up about the 300 but only just bought my first one a month ago from auction! Its been in storage at home until ive just moved back, its a Red 1994 UK manual twin turbo. Full nissan service history which was absolute delight, the mileage is slightly high at 124k but it pulls like a train and is completely standard and seems unabused. (i hope!) Its due a service which im currently gathering the bits and pieces to undertake, it suffers from the erratic idling problem people have experienced however ive cleaned the throttle bodies but need to have a play with the AAC unit which im hoping will cure it. My plan was to mod it however im loving it in standard form and think its best to get used to the power for a few months at least before i touch the engine, however reliability is my main issue and it seems like i may have a boost leak as i can hear slight hissin in the engine bay, does anyone recommend anywhere reaosnable to get a replacement hose set for my most critical hoses that are prone to splitting? Finally to say thanks for this site, ive used it for several years now and its good to see people helping out eachother and sharing information, it makes all the difference. Also i live in Peterborough and i expect a lot of you are coming up or down to JAE! dont bottle it the weathers not that bad just a bit cloudy, the odd drizzle is expected but theyve been coming in short bursts all week so go for it! nothing could be worse than the tropical rainstorm last year! ha. cheers guys. Kesh p.s. does anyone recommend some reasonable insurers for young drivers (21), ive tried skyline who were reasonable just need to do a little better.
  23. thanks again john, thats a big help! will let you kno the outcome of the engine when i buy it. kesh
  24. Lol...this ones round the corner from my house so no transport fee's. im not 100% this one is working as i cant trust what the breakers say. but say for example if the turbos had blown or if something went wrong in the engine whilst driving, and thats the reason its being scrapped, will this engine be any good for a rebuild still? many thanks, been big help! kesh
  25. cheers john, yeah im thinkin of doing a rebuild in the long run, once i buy my zed next year im not planning on selling it. compression test sounds like a good idea, whats the easiest way to do one? im very tempted to offer them 300 and theyll let me take it out, hopefully aquire few other things, has nice set of eibach springs and an aftermarket suspension setup!cheers for replin, nice tt swb manual by the way! exact one im lookin to eventually buy! if rebuilt the engine could be a spare or perfect one to plonk in mine when i buy it, i primarily want it to gain some experience on the zx engine so im familiar with it when i buy mine. cheers mate. kesh ps whats the easiest way to see if the engine turns over even if the electrics of the car might not be workin?
