  1. My zed pops a lot from the exhausts when you accellerate and come off throttle, obviously more so the harder you accellerate / the further up the rev range you go. For example, if you accellerate briskly in third gear up to around 5,000rpm and come off throttle, as the revs come down you generally get 4 or 5 pops from the exhausts. Id say its more prominent now the weather is colder. Personally I was quite happy with it as I was (still am I think) of the opinion that this was fairly normal for a car of this nature and with the spec that it has. But today I took my brother, a NA owner for three years, out for a drive today and he thinks that it shouldnt be doing it as much as it is and that in the long term it may lead to detonation. He thinks that the fueling is wrong. The car has twin blitz filters, de cat, powerflow exhausts, and has a manual under bonnet boost adjuster valve. I was told by previous owner charlie (300horses) that boost was set at 0.8 bar and amoungst the service records a boost upgrade is mentioned but I do not have a aftermarket boost guage installed so cant be sure exactly what boost is being run. All I can say is when you give it full throttlle the factory boost guage takes the whole of the rev range to reach 0.7 bar so id say that its running pretty standard boost.
  2. 24 years of age, 4 years no claims, my only car but with limited mileage, i have one speeding conviction, ive told them its got a bodykit but they didnt ask if the red was the original red so I didnt tell that otherwise! I am paying £920 per year but as I pay monthy it works out at just over a grand after the interest is added. I am with Warwick Davis. I think that its not all things considered. When I spoke to them they were the first insurer to understand that when I say its a Fairlady its not a "special edition" its just what its called and they were the only ones to ask about the vehicles that I have owned previously to this one. I have just changed over to them from Adrian Flux who incidentely are total pricks, Until I changed to Warwick Davis I didnt realise that Adrian Flux must charge about 3 times as much interest and are more expensive in the first place and it costs you 50 quid if you want to change your car on the policy (admin fees). My advice is take everything you hear, read or see about Adrian Flux with a pinch of salt.
  3. Yep thats correct it is the one from Ipswich and I have every confidence all will be well with the car. Dont wanna speak to soon but ive had no major problems yet and the car has been very well serviced since being imported in 2000. Now ive got my finances (reasonably) sorted from the initial outlay of the purchase I can put my own stamp on the car. Firstly I wanna limo tint three rear windows so to stop thrieving chavs smashing the window just because theres a sub in there and they wanna put it in there C reg Nova with the other 20 subs theyve got in there! It will also look good with the tinted rear light unit I think?
  4. As the title suggests Ive scraped together the 20 quid and have become a member. I expect throughout the next year I will be asking for advice from you lot probably about ten times a week! My first question is one that I wouldnt think id have a problem with but then it is boxing day and Im not overly sobber! I want to upload some pics of my car in the rides section but I cant work out how to do it! I look forward to joining you all at as many events as possible next year most notably the jap show. Bring on the summer!
  5. Hi have today become a paid up member having been a registered user since purchasing my zed last month. I dont know if its because ive had one (or five) too many drinks this evening but I cant work out how I upload pics of my car onto the rides section. Any help would be gratefully received.
  6. The 700 has street level whole of europe and all the mapping is stored on a 2.5gb hard drive rather than the memory card system used in the 300 and 500. As biggest card you can get is 1.0gb it is the only one that can have all of europe every road and postcode on it all the time. It also has a faster processing speed.
  7. Is it possible that, due to the improvement in the spooling of the turbos gained from the breathing modifications and slight boost increase, that I do actually need to fit a pair of blow off valves and is it in a sense dumping through the exhaust system? I had an MR2 turbo previous to purchasing the zed (I know many of you wouldnt class this as a car in the same class) and I dont recall it happening with that car. My brother, who has an NA but is better mechanically than myself, doesnt see it as a problem and it is he who thinks that fitting the blow off valves will stop it.
  8. As the thread suggest I am getting smoke (I beleive its either silver or white) when I come off throttle when on full boost. The car was purchased from 300zx.co.uk member "3horses" the performance upgrades as far as I know are as follows: - powerflow exhaust, de cat, twin blitz induction kits, manual boost control valve is fitted I beleive its running 0.8 bar but do not have an aftermarket guage to verify this. It has had a recent oil and filter change with the chosen oil spec being 20w / 50 semi synthetic. Also within the last 2 months a new rear main crank seal has been fitted, as have new PCV valves and both rubber pipes. An aftermarket oil pressure guage is fitted and is reading what I would consider normal - rich when cold and around 50psi when driving normally once warmed up. Since I noticed the smoke as described when coming off throttle (this was yesterday) I have started the car this morning and watched the smoke coming out the exhuast on start up which is silver as it should be but I after a few minutes I thought I noticed a blue tinge to it but before I could establish 100% that it was more blue than silver the car had reached temperature and resultantly the smoke stopped coming out. Having thought about it since I can not say for sure that there was any blue in it I think I may just be being paranoid. Basically any advice would be appreciated becuase I know that blue smoke can indicate turbo problems and Id like your thoughts on this and also the smoke when coming off throttle. Cheers.
  9. does anyone know if this interior is a factory fitted option on later spec models as I am looking to upgrade the tweed on mine?
  10. I am looking to upgrade the tweed interior on my zed as its the only thing letting the car down. I am considering the following options and would appreciate opnions, advice, and ideas: - - USED LEATHER INTERIOR, £250 gets me front and rear seats but at that price they are not in the best condition. For good condition I beleive I am looking at double that. In which case... - Z CENTRE BRAND NEW LEATHER SEAT COVERS AND TRIM, I beleive from memory this is £750 unfitted and obviously involves removing all the tweed off the seats and rest of interior and putting the new stuff on which makes me think maybe its a professional job? In which case... - PROFESSIONAL RE TRIM, Expensive yes but if I do it this way I can have it exactly as I want it and it will be done properly. Does anyone know of anyone who can do this? Anyone had a re trim would you reccomend? - LATER SPEC CLOTH INTERIOR, I am sure that later spec cars (possibly 1994 on or maybe later) have a different cloth interior that from memory looked pretty good. Having searched on the internet I cant find out anything but I know ive seen pics somewhere before.
  11. Just want to ask everyones opinion on blow off valves for the zed. I had an Apexi one on my MR2 turbo which, though it sounded good, did seem to have a negative effect in the sense that it seemed to be trying to dump boost when you were simply cruising without much in the way of throttle usage from myself. Basically I could hear it trying to "dump" and I could feel a stutter as it did so. In the end, having tried several different levels of tightness on the adjuster bolt, I dumped the dump valve! My question to you lot is, have any of you that have one fitted noticed this effect on your car or was it just an MR2 thing or perhaps an Apexi thing? Which one would you reccommend, if any? The only reason I am thinking about fitting one is there is a brand new HKS super sequential on ebay £120 buy it now which Id say is a good price. I know that with only stage 1 of tuning on my car I dont need one and will get know benefit other than the sound until high boost is run but well its a good price.
  12. Im from Bourne by the way. For anyone who hasnt been to Bourne. Bourne is a sleepy market town so you can imagine how funny it is to see all the old codgers expression when they see (and hear) one of these. I dont know if its a compliment, the start of a heart attack, or just general disgust but its quite funny!
  13. My bruvs already a member I beleive he is registered as GI53MO (his registration plate) but I could be wrong I think I may have a letter missing its something like that anyway. He's got a NA non turbo in electric blue with the strosek wide arch kit he went to the Jap show finale. Sorry to say it but I have arrived here via Toyota ownership (a NA Supra and a MR2 turbo) but have finally come to my senses. At 6k I know I am getting a lot of car for the money and its been well serviced. I hope to get interior re trimmed at z centre in the future but for now, having looked through the extensive service folder I will have a look at a couple of things that may be due soon and enjoy what is a lot of car for the money. When you buy a car like this and the worst things you find are a petrol cap that takes a few attempts to open and a slight problem with the horn relay then its a good sign for future ownership. Does anyone out there know of anyone other than z centre who do leather re trims just so I can compare prices and quality of work?
  14. Hello to all just introducing myself as a new zed owner. Purchased the candy red tt manual from 300horses this week very happy with the car, will be becoming a fully paid up member next nonth once ive recovered from the outlay of buying the car. Any help regarding putting images on threads would be appreciated. I though upload image would be a good start but cant seem to get anywhere with that! Obviously the car is known on here anyway with the two previous owners being members (300horses and hoppy), but id still like to put my own images on. Even if its still the same car it will be pictured outside my house and its my car - I cant beleive it! They say the camera never lies but in this case I disagree. In the flesh the candy flake thingy paint work thingy on this car in the flesh is awesome but when you take a picture, though it looks good, it just looks like a very bright red. Anyway hi to all.

As a new owner of a lightly tuned zed (induction, de cat, exhaust, 1 bar boost - its the candy red one with veilside kit purchased from 300horses) I can say, having just sold a MR2 turbo with similar tuning, that the zed is quicker on the road, handles better in terms of control and being solid, and is happy to cruise as well as blast. This is something that you cannot do in an MR2 turbo because unless you thrash it they feel sluggish and even with coilovers and front and rear strut braces its still to bloody twitchy and if you do more than 80mph you feel like the world is coming to an end!! The zed on the other hand is back of seat quick if you give it some but deceptively quick just cruising effortlessly through the gears and you can cruise along at speed and still feel comfortable and in control. I cant comment on quater mile times becuase having only owned the zed since monday I aint tried that one yet! But I can say that the best I could manage in the MR2 was 14.7 @ 92 mph but then again I have only had six attempts. What let it down for me was the gear ratios are too short. Not a problem on zeds id say.
